Blacktail Habits?
« on: October 11, 2012, 04:59:06 PM »
This my second year hunting Blacktail, and had previously decided to hunt late season muzzy in Kapowsin beacuse of the amount of people (road hunters) and the lack of seeing any deer during modern.  It seemed last year when the deer changed from thier summer pattern they became extremely nocturnial, (maybe they were just confined to the timber because of the hunting pressure), Beats me. My question is, Later in the year will the deer be more active during the day or do they hold the same pattern until the days start to become longer again? I haven't bought my tag yet and have the itch really bad to get out, with modern starting Saturday I'm begining to think about changing my mind with the muzzy thing.

Blacktail bucks seem to always go nocturnal when they shed their velvet.  Give them about three weeks and the rut will start bringing them out of the brush and more active during daylight.

It's always a frenzy around my place when the bucks start tailgating doe's around the middle of November!

Good luck and have fun!

Blacktail Bucks will be bedded down in the thickest nastiest brushpile you can find in the middle of a swampy area at the bottom of a nasty ass draw full of devils club.

OR, they can be standing in the middle of a clearcut right at daylight opening morning.   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
