Berries still good??
« on: October 17, 2012, 07:42:02 PM »
Does anybody know how the berries are this time of year? I never hunt bear in october but want to go back to an area and try for a second bear this year. Was wondering if the huckleberries that hadnt ripened in August were still around, if they havent been eaten already :) planning to go back up this weekend and try to throw the tag on another one!

Red huck are done. Look for Evergreen huck with little black berries.

BTKR, it looks like you have the makings for a good haggis, just add some oatmeal and spuds!   :chuckle:

Pretty slim pickings for blue huckleberries as well as reds, I was up at 5,000ft last weekend and was surprised to see some bushes still holding a decent amount, most bushes were bare though. Evergreens are getting there. All of my blackberries are mush or have fallen off.

Ya I went back up to my spot this past weekend and all the berries were gone. And the 6" of snow that fell throughout the day didnt help my visibility either...
