I showed up 3 days before the season to scout and hunted 6 days. Weyco was closed.
Once the season opened most elk headed north or south to Weyco closed lands. I saw 2 three point bulls drop off south side of "Signal peak" to Weyco a day before season opened. I heard of one 5 point being killed and one cow. WDFW might restore points or something. It was so dry that one guy had called the department and was told if he post marked his permit and sent it back before season they would give him his points back. WDFW has not made a determination on what they will do. I saw 3 DNR people while I was in and they were helpful about figuring out the roads. The Weyco Tree farm map was almost worthless, the recreational map was really worthless and the only one I saw that was pretty current was the DNR maps and the WDFW overlays helped some. WDFW want your input on this season. I gave my input to phone number 360-902-2525.
Good luck where ever your season is and have a good time.

I hope they dont restore them. Sorry, but that's the risk you take when you apply for those permits. This year was worse than any year I can remember, I agree. I had an archery bull tag for Margaret, I scouted both weyco and NFS lands, hoping to hunt weyco but counting on hunting public ground. From what I'm told the amount of public ground in the toutle is a really big block of land, bigger than all of what weyco owns in my unit, at least from I was told. Sorry to hear about your hunt.

When i was talking to the game department about restoring my points due to my unit being completely closed they used toutle as an example. My unit was completely closed, no access, no entry. Zero acres available.
Toutle had land available to hunt, so they would probably not allow those points to be restored. Now don't get mad at me, this is what i was told.

This was my first year muzzleloading and I drew a toutle cow tag. Every thing I had scouted was Weyco land, but I have a little knowledge of the area from hiking with my kids on state land. The first two days was very crunchy and i didn't see anything except driving in early in the morning. After that i had no problem staying on the elk, getting close enough for a shot on the other hand i was not so lucky. Monday i got within 30 yards of the first elk and cow I saw. I pulled up to shoot and just a little pop
the cow ran away before i could put another cap on. In total for the week I saw 3 big bulls, 2 branch bulls, what seemed like a couple spikes in every herd i saw, and a couple dozen cows. Sorry for your luck dsawurt

I was in there helping my uncle hunt for the first 3 days in there for a bull and I think that is the worst quality bull hunt in the state. not saying u can't kill bulls like crazy but they give out 100 cow tags and 28 bull tags... I didn't talk to any other people who had a bull tag and. There were tons of people up there, everyone was a cow hunter.. it was like vail up there... granite we had opportunities on a few bulls and passed on a couple smaller bulls but with the amount of cow hunters it was far from a quality hunt!..conditions were *censored* and access was limited and thank god I new a spot in there that was un pressured but this tag should be dropped to just a bull tag like the margret if there is a 100 cow tags... that's my thoughts, the toutle and margret was the westside *censored* in the early 90's but the genetics have gone to *censored* the big bulls just are far and few between anymore in there... if u want lots of action and a good chance to kill a little bull put in for it but a chance to kill a big bull not so much...
