my sons first deer!

well yesterday was a big disapointment not being able to go out to my usual spot with weyco closed...late saturday i found out rayonier opened their land so we left the house this morning about 7am to check out some area i hunted years ago...we ended up seeing a few deer but no bucks in the morning...we ended up turning around about noon and came back to a spot we seen a guy dragging a deer out and not 50 yds from that spot was a spike standing off the road. i was the first one out and had my gun loaded and got my son in line to shoot the deer...he hesitated shooting my gun he thought it would hurt to much and i told him you wont even feel it but by the time he got back on the buck he walked off into the timber....the timber patch was only 100yds wide so we high tailed it around to the other side hoping he would come out..we pulled up and stopped and glassed the cut to no avail then my dad looked to his left and a doe was standing there at 20 yds....we watched her for a few minutes untill she trotted off out of sight, my dad in the meantime backtracked down the road trying to get a better angle on the doe incase there was a buck with her. on his way back to us he glassed down to where we thought the spike would come out and guess what, there he was...200yds away standing broadside....i got my sons gun loaded for him and set up but the rain was coming down hard and we couldnt keep the glass clear long enough for a shot..we worked our way down another 100yds to a big old ceder stump that was rotting and i got the gun set up on it and tried to show my son where the buck was but he just could not pick the deer out....i ended up making a little wedge in the rotting ceder stump to steady the crosshairs on the buck, i moved to the side and let my son slide his head over so he could see just where the deer was. after 15min of trying to point this deer out he finally seen it...buck fever sets in
he started shaking...i calmed him down and got him behind the rifle and told him to wait for the buck to turn broadside...he did just that, then boom...the deer just stands there...clean miss
i racked another shell in for him and got the crosshairs on him again, hes now quartering away...a few min goes by and he turns broadside again and i tell him when he stops squeeze the trigger....the deer kicks up and is hit...he ended up breaking the back leg (can we say buck fever again
) i grabbed his gun and racked the last cartridge into the chamber and by then the buck layed down not 10 yds away from the impact spot. we make our way down right away to finish the job, it only takes maybe 5 min to get to him...i take a step up on a little mound and there he is laying 10ft away and my son cant see him..he keeps looking farther into the cut
i told him look down hes about close enough to bite you...i hand him his gun and he puts a finishing shot into the buck and he has officially started his addiction to blacktail hunting! today was his first day out and he came home with his first buck...today was his little brothers birthday also...he turned 3 and called his papa last night and told him he wanted him to get a buck for his birthday...doesnt get much better than that!...it was me and my dad and my son...3 generations hunting together...what an awsome day
oh by the way did i mention it was wet out today

If I read the story correctly your dad was there too. Congrats to your little man and to your family for having 3 generations there for his first deer.
