Just getting started with Black Bear
« on: October 20, 2012, 03:39:06 PM »
Hi all,

New to the forums and bear hunting, looks like there's ton's on information to sort through!  From reading here I've gathered that any gated forest service road off Highway 2 past Monroe is a good place to start.  My boy's and I are hoping to get out before the season ends.  Is it too late in the season to have any success?  Also, what part does elevation play with late hunts.  Most of the roads I've looked at are in the 1500-2500 elevation - do I need to go higher or will this work?

I'm hoping we have some success but I'm sure the scouting will pay off for the spring if we get drawn and for next year.  It looks like a blast and should be some good bonding time with the boy's.

Thanks!

Ian

You have the right idea starting to get late in the season but it could still be done.  I just killed my first one of the year last week.  Good luck to you.

Hung a trail cam where I got my avater pic today, and had to step over fresh bear scat. Thats down here in Oregon. Of course it's in a berry patch on an old apple tree, old homestaed there,  and last year it was this guys favorite spot. He was there enough that I placed a measuring stick there for him, 36" to the lower ribbon, hes about to step up onto the same level as the stick.
