what scope for a muzzy?

i want to put a scope on my wolverine 209, 50 cal.  can i put any scope or is there a certain kind?  what would be a good scope?  i know they are not for wash.  but i am part blind in my dominant eye(20\100).  mike w

Any scope other than maybe a .22 one should work fine.  You can use the scope on a muzzy during modern season here.

As a visually impaired hunter you may be able to legally use a scope in Washington.

yep, i am to see my eye doctor about a scope on the muzzy.  i should be able to get one cuz i can not see my front sight.    mike w

I would go with the 3-9X because you can always turn it down, but in some point restriction units, it is nice to have that extra magnification, unless you are strictly westside hunting, then the 2-7X would probably be fine.

Good luck with that my boss tried. He took the information he got from the game department to he eye docter and hi doctor told him that if you qualify to use a scope on a muzzle loader you should rethink hunting because you would be almost leagaly blind!

Im sorry about your eye sight butreally if you cant see your front sight , you make me a lil uneasy in the woods . It's not just seeing your target but what lays beond it.

Wow that browned barrel looks beautiful. I am def gonna have to consider that after our season ends this year.

My eyes suck too and I am considering buying on the Dixie Gun Works Magnetic 15/16" Scope Mount for my rifle. I'd rather NOT have to put a scope on my Great Plains Rifle.....have to see how I do sighting it in this weekend first with the iron sights....

A peep sight would help over a standard iron sight.  For me, the groove gets a little fuzzy, but even with fuzz at the sight I can still center the bead in the peep and stick it on a deer.

    peep sights are a much different apparatus than regular iron sights.  I think people looking to use a scope don't like hearing that but it's still true.

Good luck, things just fuzz on the edges for me because of my astigmatism.  Luckily "decent" scopes aren't too expensive these days.  Trying to get WDFW to be reasonable might be the tough part.

A suggestion and I am not sure this will help, but I really like the Bushnell Elite scope 3x9x40 600 DOA...

The thing that might help you the most is the 'Fast Focus' eye piece the Bushnells have - I would go to a local Sporting Goods store that might have one and try it up to your eye and use the fast focus ring and see if it might work for you.

The other good thing is the scope has a Rainguard substance applied to the glass that really helps in crappy weather - almost eliminated the need for scope covers...
