Do geese need deeper water to land?
« on: October 20, 2012, 08:18:01 PM »
I have been hunting a small lake. Its pretty shallow for about 75 yards then it drops of a bit. I keep getting geese that want to land in my decoys but the keep turning just out of range and land in the deeper water. Do geese need deeper water to land? All i have for goose decoys is three floaters and about twenty shells. Every flock I have had hit the lake seem like they want to come in but they all turn at the last second. Any ideas?

U need to adjust your set up, the water depth shouldn't matter

Just the only thing I could think of at the time. :dunno: It just seemed like they wanted to land right at the edge for the deeper water. I guess I might have to try a little different set up tomorrow.

I would try a different set up or location.  You may be trying to suck them to tight and they are seeing you or they routinely always land in the deeper spot.  I would move towards the deeper section and place them on the edge.  But, that is just one recommendation.  They may not like your decoys, seeing you, lack of any movement, etc.  Water depth doesn't matter it's all about being where they want to be or close to it.

One tried to land perpendicular to my flight path. Realized his goof and flared about 10 yards from my buddies barrel.  :chuckle:
