460 Quality
« on: November 07, 2012, 09:30:44 PM »
Drew a 460 quality tag this year that will give me 6 more days Nov. 15-20th this year of washington's finest BT hunting. Anyone on here been previous holders of this permit? If so, how did you do? Im torn on whether I should hunt my usual spot in the low lands, or venture further east to hunt closer to the snow line. It seems the hunt dates are near or past the end of the typical rut period. Dont have a Hancock permit this year, so options are somewhat limited. Normally hunt Marckworth which was rather slow this year in the early season. Obviously not seeking anyones honey hole but rather any input on deer movement/rut activity based on elevation and dates. Im leaning towards higher elevation at this point, at least for the first couple of days of the hunt period.
Any input is appreciated

I f you have a mtn bike I would go up Haystack mtn right off the Ben Howard road. Get as high as you can get, hunt some of the high clear cuts. If you don't have a bike borrow one :chuckle: I wouldn't waste that tag down low myself  :twocents:

Have 2, and bike in everytime I leave the truck. Very familiar with the Haystack area, hunted bear around cedar ponds for many years. Wondering if its worth the effort hunting closer to the pass.

where is the snow at over there?  Lived in Gold Bar for 8 years and If you can get closer to skykomish and be at the snow line it makes finding them alot easier.  I have seen some absolute bruiser taken out of that area.

Skykomish is kind of what I have been leaning towards at this point. Havent had any time to scout due to a recent addition to the family this summer (Other then early season hunting). Not sure what snow level is at, prob gonna try to make a drive this weekend to investigate.

Check out foss river rd.  If you can get to sobieski mt or what we know as the 6830 rd (this one was washed out, don't know if they have fixe it yet.  Both are great places to find nice deer.  steep country so make sure you take chains if there is snow.

Great permit you've got. Should be a great hunt. Be sure to come back with a post-hunt report.
