Pheasants with a longbow
« on: October 18, 2012, 02:28:27 PM »
What point would be best for shooting a ringneck with a longbow? Would you worry about a dog retreiving with a dull broad head? What about a judo point? I don't think a blunt and a head shot is up my ally anytime soon, but I may try this year to bag a pheasant with a sharp stick.

A blunt or judo's are ok but only shock them at close range. I like a really dull broadhead and I REALLY round the tip down They will have enough force to drive threw and stick in but not hurt a dog. I have also used a field point with a adder collar behind it.

anybody ever try shooting birds with a compound bow ? i have a mission x3 set at 63 lbs and was curious about the whole bird thing. i would assume it is a seperate tag as well ?
The only person who has failed is the one who never tried.

Can you use a bird snare arrow?

jeepster on here shot a snow goose with a compound on fir island.  Fred Eichler the Hyote recuve guy did a show where he shot phesants with his recuve flue flues and broad heads.  :twocents:

I am assuming all you would need would be a small game/upland tag.
And I would definately use the flu-flu arrows.
Don't know why you couldn't do it with a compound, other than I would think with bird getting with it (flying) you may be better off with an instintive draw/release, vs a compound with the breakover/hold/aim scenario  :dunno:
