blacktail rattling
« on: November 13, 2012, 06:24:59 PM »
i have been hunting blacktail with a bow for 4 years now and have always had terrible luck in the late season, i was wondering if anyone has an idea if rattling late season works or if i would be wasting time

Its never worked for me although I wish it did.  I grew up in Georgia and love rattling whitetails in and really love hunting blacktails.  It would be an awesome combo.  I try occasionally anyway.
I have had good luck with one antler and a tree though... Shred the chit out of another deer's rub and wait.  They have never seemed to like that and come by to check it out - sometimes from a distance so stay VERY still, don't stink and keep your eyes WIDE open.

Good luck in the late.  I'll be joining you.

Yeah,
I've been hunting blacktail deer here in the northwest for over 30 yrs.Just when you think you have them figured out they do something different.Your sent, feet, legs, rub and scrap everyting and move slow through the woods.Tree stands is where i have had the best luck. When you finally get one cut and save the glands from the legs.Vaccum seal and freeze for next year.Tie around your shoe laces.Watch your wind.Gone hunting...Late buck 2012..good luck..shoot straight
