Quilomene quality deer tag for Nov. 5 thru 20... help?!
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:22:21 PM »
My Dad clued me in to this website a couple weeks back. Fascinating! And a great resource for those of us who love hunting... only wish I'd learned of this before now.. :bash:
Very first posting by a newbie rookie (but 20 yr deer and elk hunter) so don't know what kind of responses I can hope for?  'Move along little boy' might be a popular one' lol..  I've drawn the Quilomene 'quality deer' tag, and have done some significant scouting over there, and am hoping to hear from someone who's spent some time in that VAST area.  Should I focus on the more forested areas up towards Colockum, or the more wide open sage down towards the Columbia?  How best to access this area to hunt it properly on this once in a lifetime November hunt?  ANY INFO and I mean ANY would be hugely appreciated, and thanks!

find the snowline wherev it is! my guess is youll have to drive a ways up it but you can literally road hunt like a lot of other late tag holders and do just fine

Find the old Army Road and you will find a fair number of deer.  Make sure to take a spare tire or two and a 4 wheel drive vehicle that is in good running order because it can be nasty.  I have been down the road a few time in a stock Toyota 4x4 without any issues.

One other way to access the area is from the river and then hiking in from the waters edge. Might be worth taking a look at if you have a boat

I've hunted that area for over 20 years for elk and have seen more than a couple 30 inch bucks in the last few years in the sage brush. Can be very hit and miss so get out and walk the sage is all I can say. I hunt down low on the parke creek side and we have seen some monsters in those hills. lots of good bucks on the  state land down low below the fourth cattle guard and the wind mill farm, If its still open that late in the year  can hold some huge bucks.

GREAT INFO... many thanks to huntincouple, cem3434, bonecollector, Scottystyle, rooster and Sneaky.  Some valuable advice and much appreciated!!  Went up on Monday (after a fresh snow the night before) and saw 10 deer incl. a 2 and a 3 pt. buck, 12 elk and a very nice 5 pt. bull, 3 coyote and a bunch of blue grouse.  Best of all saw some great country.. can't wait til November 5th.
I'll post how it all goes as timely as able, and hopefully will have some pics of a decent buck down.. THANKS again all..
