Battery-free mojo? Adding motion?

What are you guys using instead of the battery operated mojos? I want to add some wing motion into the spread and cant find anything that is battery free and adds the mojo like motion? any tips?

I know that a few of the sports stores up hin Skagit area have the wind powered ducks.  And if used they can have good sucess on windy days.

Check out the Winduck's, they seem to work good for me. I'll use half dozen of them early in the season, maybe 1 are 2 later when they start getting decoy shy. Usually the best price is on there site http://www.winduk.com/. No batteries to worry about, and if it's not windy it's usually not worth hunting anyway.

Cut the keel off the decoy then drill a number #10 (3/16th) hole through the decoy. Push the Rod through the decoy slide the 2 flat nuts until they hold the rod secure next to the decoy body; note the nuts are slightly curved the cupped end should be towards the body. Then slid on the nylon bushings then add the propellers; you may need to open the hole bigger than 3/16th and finally push on the cap nuts. Then cut the corrugated plastic; make sure that you are cutting with the length of the plastic. Using a filet knife cut the three or four plastic veins on the wings. Using some fine grit sandpaper rough up both sides paint one side white and the other black, add some glue to the propellers and slide the wings onto the propellers. Last step add your pin/post; I usually use a 3” X 3” X ¼ plywood with the pin in the middle and secure with short sheet rock screws.  Then it is off to the field rod and decoy in hand; they work very well in low wind condition but they can take off in high wind.

2,  9 inch X 18 Pitch model airplane propellers
1,  #10 Stainless Steel rod
2,  square #10 flat nuts 
2,  nylon bushings with a #10 hole
2,  push on cap nuts
4,  2” X 9” corrugated plastic political signs
1, tube of glue
¼ inch pin of your choice
1, green plastic coated garden stake most are ¼ inside diameter
Black and white paint.

That's a pretty great setup man. I'm guessing you hunt really shallow water? Most of my setups end up in water about 6-8 feet deep. I think my collapsible tent poles would work great for that.

The post are 4 feet and I have used anything from 2 feet to 10' EMT; whatever floats your boat. I'm working on a floater wind powered gizmo right now, don't have the pitch figured out yet. More to come; why spend $$$ when you can make them at home??

I use decoy dancer pull strings, whip splash and kick splash. Sometimes add a jerk cord.

Jerk string,and Aero outdoors sells  wing flapping duck that is a pull string,it works great!!!

Why don't any stores in Washington sell jerk string decoys?  Doesn't make sense to me?  Someone should tell cabelas they aren't legal here!

Wholesale carries pull strings, several different kinds. All the stores around me carry something.

Cabelas has a mojo like decoy. You just pull a string and it spins the wings. $150 though

My budget is actually higher if I make something myself. I made a crappy looking homebrew pier gaff once and it cost me about 15 bucks after all was said and done. saw one later for 12 and was whining about all the hassle and paying more. wife said she liked mine better because it looked homemade lol. Ive since delved into other projects and as long as I build it myself she doesnt ask how much it costs at all..... maybe i can make a home made gun or 20

i got my mojo wind-activated duck for about $20 and made an adjustable post for it.  i also have been using a jerk cord out in front of it...works good to get motion in and above your deeks.

Birds in Skagit figure out winduks fast. Every time they get near one, They get shot at. Then there are the gomers that think... If one works. 6 is better
Aero or knotty stop..
Watch birds in Nov. They fly towards the motion on winduks. Then flare away. They work for stopping birds from landing some where you don't want them to.
The Aero is a rattle trap though. It is better to just buy the guts and put in a Avery full body feeder.

There are a number of pull string wing flapping and wind driven decoys available online. I've used a variety of them, they all work at times and not at others.  One consideration is the jerk string to decoys on the water.  I've used this later in the season when spinning wing decoys start to flare the birds.  The water jerk strings can be as effective as spinning wing and on those blue bird, calm days, quite deadly.

What ever happened to the decoys that had a 20 foot piece of speedometer cable hooked to a spin cast reel? A buddy of mine had one and sold it a couple years ago for 400.00 bucks. Why did they quit making them, or do they still?

These are awesome.... even when its not windy.
It adds elevational depth to the spread.
And can be seen from a long way off.
