Ever have this happen...?
« on: October 22, 2012, 11:52:56 AM »
Ever been driving on US 2 o the FAR west side, and see an extremely large bull Elk? Cuz it happened today.

My question to all the hardcore Elk guys, especially those of you familiar with South Sno/North King county is, why is a Bull Elk this far west, this close to.... people, in conclusion.. I've been hunting these parts my whole life, NEVER seen an Elk in this area, or anywhere near it!

Any thoughts? Wildfire Push, Small pocket normally hidden from anyone...?

It doesn't take much room for an elk.  Especially a bull by himself.

You have to have fun with the decoys. Roll on the ground up to it, then give it a hug or something  :dunno: :chuckle: Then realize that it isn't a decoy and it is running away  :dunno: :chuckle:

Well, I would hope no one would shoot it out of season, in a town, 10 feet off a major highway...

You under estimate the many road hunters!  Shooting a bull doesnt get any easier than that.  :chuckle:

I know there are dumb people everywhere, especially this time of the year, but lets just say, It was RIGHT off Highway 2, and in a downtown patch of grass, trees. I am still so dumbfounded that it was even there, WHY was it there? What would make a Bull that big just show up? And it was not a decoy. Any real answers? Cause there are no Elk in these parts... it doesn't make sense.

so was it in sultan or monroe is my question and just because you have never seen elk in town does not mean they aren't there, my guess he was pressured out of his hidey hole by displaced hunters due to the many fires on the east side, I think the wet side may have had a bit more activity than in past deer seasons which would disrupt elk and other wildlife at times of the year when they are not normally.  Elk walk right into North Bend eat rose bushes rub on houses with their antlers and asses, lick windows....elk are where you find them :dunno:

There are a few elk running around in that country. I know a few people that have them on trail cams, and a buddy got into a couple while bear hunting this fall. Also, if my memory is correct, there was a guy a few years back that got busted for poaching a BIG bull up around Gold Bar or Index. There are more sneaky north Sound bulls around then people think...

I don't mean I've never seen one in town, since I can remember I've been all over the woods between The canadian Border to St Helens, and I've never seen an elk farther north than NorthBend/Snoqualmie area, and never south of Highway 20 in between Hamilton and Rockport... and even those sightings, or people talking about them, were rare.

But these are THICK western Wa woods we are talking about. Never say Never...and again, it was not a Decoy. Unless there has been a TON of money dumped into them recently, and they now walk around and jump gates and etc...

407 unit has them 10 feet of the MT Baker hwy.
They follow the Gas pipeline right into Deming.
Causes quite the traffic jam when people stop to take pictures.

2 Days before muzzy season there were a dozen of them across highway 9 in Acme.
TONS of people clogged up the road to stop and look.

Ran into a couple muzzy guys drooling over them.
