onto him, now what..
« on: October 22, 2012, 02:49:17 PM »
over the weekend we decided to work an area way off the beaten path and seem to have landed right in the middle of this bruisers playground. the landscape is laid out like this: 6-7 year old reprod | timber| old grown over logging road | timber | brand new clear cut. we heard and spotted him in the timber but in an area that was too thick to get to and he was onto us like fly on poop but he never seemed to want to bust out, just getting far enough away to feel safe and out of view like he was playing cat and mouse with us. also found fresh rubs up and down the old logging road (10-12 of them). it seems this is where he makes his home in the afternoons (at least that's when we were pushing him around). we don't want to pressure him out of the area but rather get him coming or going maybe at the edge of timber but what tactics would you use and how successful have they been? i have hunted this area for the past 4 years without coming as close as we did this weekend and want to further learn this boys habits but time is running out! it seems he would be exiting the clear cut in the mornings heading for bed in the timber or coming out in the evening but which is more likely?!? would you continue to still hunt the timber during the day in hopes of jumping him from his bed? or what seems the likely answer - do all 3!!
