Yes, #4 buck or hevi shot t dead coyote. 00 buck will be devestating if you connect but only has 15 pellets in a 3" shell. #4 buck has 34. General rule is 8 or more hits in a 8" circle is minimum for reliable kills. Be ready to put a second round into one. Especially if they are not down. Need to pattern shotguns before hunting. Took me a few outings to get a good combo.

i pack a 22-250 or 223 with a shot gun #4 or 00 on almost every stand and i hunt in the middle of open fields, trees, draws, sage brush etc. had more dogs at 20 yds than at 100yds. get a variety of calls you never know whats going to work that day. have also picked off dogs at 500 with my 22-250. most important thing is getting to know your gun how and where it shoots and get out there with some calls and find out what works.
good luck

get off the web and go hunt!! :chuckle: Wait, do not go without a deer tag if it is open!!! you cannot have a big game gun in the wood during open deer season without a tag.

What - you can sell hides? Shoot I didnt know that! I just let them rot or give them to this chick in kirkland. (she is probably selling them!)

Hey Ryno, whats up dude, long time. Are seriously telling him not to buy a new gun!? Hell YES buy a new gun dude!! Then if you dont like it or want a different one, then buy that one too! And another, and another.... :chuckle:

And remember, when you hearing howling dogs and you howl or bark back, alot of times they wont answer or will just shut up all together. But that doesnt mean they are (oops NOT) coming in for a look so STAY STILL and keep your eyes PEELED! But I dont think I've ever got one to come in on a howl, always distress, rodent, rabbit, or pup. I've had them answer, but most of the time they clam up. A week or two back it sounded like the whole damn westside population was yipping in the "woods" behind my house, I kicked open the back door and let out a couple barks and locator howl - crickets. So I tried a challenge howl. They didnt make another noise all night.

I need to get out & dead some dogs but between work, soccer & fishing I just dont have the time anymore. Plus I started a part-time at Home Depot to save the extra money to buy a boat. So now anything remotely close to "free-time" is long gone. That was stupid :bash: but a year from now when I am in my new Trophy I'll look back with a smile! I hope!

Good luck fatrobber and welcome to predator hunting!

I have the best luck like within an hour or two of 1st light. But I think hour before sunset is good too. But I've also got them in the middle of the day in the dead heat of the noon sun. I think this time of year you should be able to find them most any time of the day???

Cool - thanks for the invite. I'm not real good at planning ahead, I kinda decide the night before and then head out last minute. I have a couple of private little spots I do really well at, one in particular in Granite, but everytime I take someone out there we dont call nothing in so they think I'm crazy for going there. (or if we do someone falls asleep, shoots over them, or doesnt see them come in and then spooks them! - yes you KNOW who you are!) But I got pictorial proof!

I just havent been able to get out in so long and lately any time I do get out I've been hitting the water for silvers. Ryno, FC, predatorpro & coyote cowboy, all gave up on me and never call since I always turn them down!

But I will keep it in mind and shoot you a PM if I can. In the meantime get out there and kill 'em all - well not ALL of them - and show us the pics!

MORNINGS are probably the best, but have had luck howling and distress at all times of the day. start out with distress the fall back to howling until you get your howling figured out (which means learning to speak coyote). those of you that step out of your house and howl because the coyotes are, that will never work. they know where you house is just the same as you and its not likely that a coyote will be holwing off you porch. :bdid:

Right on - I hope you do. Shoot, I gotta go. My boss is hassling me again about the whole "work" thing. Every day it the same dang thing, you'd think he'd give it up by now! :chuckle: I ought to file harassment charges!
