My wife and I left our daughter with grandpa yesterday evening so we could go check a mushroom patch and see if some chantrelles or matsutakes are growing yet and my wife has a general deer tag and you couldn't ask for better blacktail weather. Not far from the mushroom patch we had a buck run across the road in front of us and so she went out in the woods after it. After a small stalk she ended up getting a 10 yard shot on a nice healthy spike! Thankfully she got a heart shot and it ran about 30 feet and tipped over and it was a fairly easy drag all downhill. I don't think she could be any happier!
Unfortunately, there wasn't squat in the mushroom patches. Very little new growth of the chantrelles in patches that are usually full of shrooms this time of year. Kinda hoping that changes in the next few weeks.
Oh well, I think it was still a pretty productive mushroom picking adventure.
