Botched my Turkey day plans
« on: November 11, 2012, 03:59:05 PM »
But I'm not complaining!!! Looks like Ill be spending Thanksgiving 2013 in Boonville AR at the ABC Amateur National Championship. My wife and I just got back from the Nashville trial and I managed to get my pup around and win the Amateur All Age weekend trial. This is the first qualifying trial for the 2013 Nationals. It also gives her 3 of the 10 points needed for her Amateur FC and gets the required win out of the way.... While I love hunting, it's hard to beat the adrenaline rush from watching your dog fly down an edge and disappear into cover 400 yards away and go missing for 5 minutes only to show to the front exactly where she should be. That, and having your brace mates judge call point for your dog because she's buried into the cover where you can barely see her, and you've already rode past, is a HUGE rush. I thought Id lost her two different times only to have her show to the front by following my voice. There is some rushes hunting just can't duplicate!

Thanks Wild.  Winning the amateur at Booneville would be amazing, but there is a lot of really good amateur handlers there that have been doing this a LOT longer than I have, and they all have really, really nice dogs.  I'll be the first to admit that while I like handling my pup, and I'm not horrible at it, some of those guys are really, really good. But you never know.  Hopefully a few more trials and a week out at summer camp might get me ready....  In the mean time, I'll be watching the Open in 3 weeks from the gallery at Booneville hoping she does well at this years Open.  There's 69 dogs running in the OAA this year.  It will take a great dog with a little luck to make the podium.
