Ive had it...STILL have yet to see one buck
« on: October 25, 2012, 05:55:26 PM »
I have had enough of this nocturnal crap, I have beat the brush hard, followed every game trail through Greenwater and other areas, hoping to spook one out of its bed, been there at 530 am, sat all day hoping one would come by, sat til after dark, and have yet to even see one buck, not a single antler, haven't even seen a doe since like day 4 of modern season  :bash: Im sick of this crap time to go where deer can be found during the day :o

So where on the east side is some decent public ground?

The problem with that is the season is done for deer on the eastside except for 4 zones which tomorrow is the last day there.

Good luck with that idea.. we had 7 legal bucks scouted before the season..  we ate our tags...
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Greenwater sucks for deer, and blacktail are the hardest deer to hunt in the world (at least the big one's are). This weekend the rut will heat up, I think it will be good but Monday thru Wed should be really good. Welcome to blacktail, they suck ass when you are looking for a big one. If you want any buck, go to vail or try wilkeson. It's hunting, not killing so dont give up.

I hope the rut/pre-rut turns on soon.  I saw a doe still nursing a fawn this afternoon.  Would think they'd had kicked the fawns this close to magic time.

Keep at it and you will find one. These last couple of days I have seen more deer movement than I have in months. I have watched three very nice blacktail bucks out in the middle of the day this week. They all appeared to be in rut and dumb as a rock. Good luck to ya!!!

My son saw a nice 2 point day before yesterday.  Following a doe right out across an open field.  Didn't even look at him.  Late afternoon.  It's starting to happen.   Don't get frustrated.  Keep at it.  The last 4 days of the general season are always good.  Weather is supposed to be raining.  Good things will happen.

The force is weak with this one! Westside BT bucks are the most elusive of all big game animals to hunt. Suffering and disappointment in pursuit of one are the norm.

Don't feel bad, I took my daughter out tonight and we didn't see anything.  We'll be back at it again tomorrow night.  This is her third year and hasn't gotten one yet.  The last two years I took her out east and my old stompin grounds had turned into pumpkin patches.  I really hope we can get her one since she's been a trooper.

Sounds like you need to get higher up.  That's my answer for whenever I can't find deer around  :)

Not sure if it works yet but I always get a good hike. :sry:

Stick with it.  Look for areas with lots of tracks, clearcuts, trails crossing roads etc.  Once you find that hunt the thickest ridges around it.  Keep an eye out for does, it is getting close to time.  Until they start really moving well you have to find them in there bedrooms.  Work slow use your bino's.

You have to be tough to hunt these SOBs. I have the same story. I go out every night after work and hit the brush and make a stand until dark. It is frustrating but you just have to be in the woods and wait on some luck. Hey, at least we are hunting!

Greenwater does suck for deer. I was out there for 3 days last week and didnt see one damn deer not even a doe or anything. I did see alot of animals i couldnt shoot (mountain goat, tons of cows and the biggest bull i have ever seen in person he was an 8x8. Too bad its special permit in that area or he would be in the bed of my truck soon.

problem is your not quite miserable enough yet to take a blacktail buck.when your wet cold and tired, the wind is blowing, your wife is mad at you, your dog died, and your mistress left you for another woman.its then  when the hunting gets good, you have to shame them into showing themselves.Pissed off just isnt enough :chuckle:  This is why I love hunting blacktail :chuckle:

pay attention to moon phases. When the moon is overhead during the day the deer will be out also. It never fails, whenever I see animals out during the day I also see the moon. Keep working it, it will happen soon. I would also recommend picking up a Ricks fawn Distress call. That's what I used to call in my Blackie buck this year! I shot it at 10:00 am and yes, the moon was up!
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

If I remember correctly, I never saw a deer during legal hunting hours last year, until I killed a 2x3 blacktail on October 30th.

Good...one less person hunting Greenwater i have to contend with....oh by the way...I have seen more deer this year in GW than any year in the past...passed on 3 spikes and seen many, many doe. So yeah, pack it up and move on down the road.

Just saw the most deer I've seen all season hunting BT.... One spike (passed), 4 doe, 2 fawn, 1 huge bodied mature deer that I swear was a buck but in the fading light, through the timber/brush and pouring rain I could never see antler... This was all between 4pm and dark last night... Hunted all day in the pouring rain... Glassed cut and reprod all am and early afternoon... Got into the timber after trying to dry out just after 4pm.... Couldn't go 100 yards without a sighting till dark.... Went out this am for @ 3 1/2 hours.... 2 doe on the edge of a cut... Not raining so I came home to sit in a warm house and try to dry my gear out for this evening or tomorrow.... Keep at it.... There is still hope.... Plus late season...

Try this technique.  Deer seem to sense when you are hunting them.  Last weekend I was just looking around my elk hunting area.  Walked right up on a crab claw buck (very little forked horn).  The 30-40#'s of boned out meat he would have provided were not worth me firing a shot off in my elk area one week before season, so he lives.

The moral of the story, if you act like you don't care if you see them.  That will be the time that you do see them!

i gave up on GW a aweek ago. for 2 week i saw the same hunters at the same gates day after day so im not the only one up there that didnt find prospect.

I'm beginning to think you're my alter ego?!

A lot of the same areas and not seeing ant bucks!  Although I have found elk!

capitol forest, 9 hrs, fail.. driving through black diamond headed home a ahole pulls in front of me with a nice spike ratchet strapped to his toolbox  :bash: maybe tomorrow ill spend my gas money on booze, get loaded, and wait for late season  :chuckle:

The CF is not always an easy hunt and the biggest mistake I would say you made was posting at a quarter to 5 on a day like today.  :dunno:

One of the best days of the year (both rain and rut) and you were already home before the evening hunt.  :bash:

I saw you posted about hunting the CF on the 27th and saw nothing. Don't feel bad, we only saw one doe and a spike. Something was not right on Saturday up there.

Other than that we managed to see 6-12 deer a day up there while helping my 10 year old nephew. Got him on a spike but he tried too hard to make a perfect shot and when the buck tried to walk straight away I had to tell him not to shoot.

There are a lot of deer up there, but as stated, blacktails are not the easiest critters to find.

I'd say all I hear is a bunch of whining on this thread. It's not always easy, and some years are better than others, but if you love to hunt and the outdoors, it's always good just to be out there. Just put in your time and you'll succeed and have a positive attitude about it.
