Trailer for marsh rat/aqua pod?
« on: October 28, 2012, 05:55:58 PM »
Does anyone have a trailer for a marsh rat or aquapod? I was seriously thinking about building something similar to these after trying to use a kayak in the sound, but the weight of a homebuilt one makes me reconsider that. While I love the maneuverability of the kayak over the hybrid boat my buddy built, I'd love something in between. My issue is I only wish I had a pickup about 10 times a year. I prefer my suv and will not get a pickup. The problem is I scrape my kayak loading it on my roof all the time and I'd prefer a trailer. Anyone build one for this? I'd love to see a bunch of pictures.

I know that you can get jet ski trailers for super cheap from time to time. a little tweaking and I bet it would fit the bill.

I'd get this trailer and modify it.  Just lengthen out the bunks and narrow them up a bit so your boat would fit.  Or make a two place trailer.

I'd leave the winch but replace the cable or big rope with better but thinner rope so you could winch a yak up the beach?  You could even put a rope guide on the tail end of the trailer so you don't have the rope binding up or rubbing.  Then you could winch a yak right up a cliff.

I will give you one if you come and pick it up.  You would have to get it licensed and lights, but everything else is good on it.

This isn't for this year, or the next one either. My season ends dec 1st and I won't be in country for a year after that. (Not deploying, just a pita tour.) I'm not even sure I will need a boat when I get back depending on where we get sent. I like to over research everything so I was looking for all the different ways you guys did things.

H2O that is yet another crazy awesome offer from members on this site. I can't take you up on that but if you're near my neck of the woods sometime and we can link up the first round is on me!

I use a little 4x8 flatbed utility trailer for both my 12' Jon boat and my Marsh Rat.  I have a pair of 2x4's screwed down for rails or bunks, but they aren't really required.  Secure the boats with motorcycle and ratchet straps.  Works great and the trailer is useful for a lot of other stuff where a dedicated boat trailer really is not.

Doing some looking i came across a bunch of hf trailers. my concern is they say they are rated to 45 and not to exceed that. is that just due to tires? I need to be able to do a minimum of 65 to not get run over in most places and make it through some not well maintained dirt roads somethimes.

Im looking for a trailer for my pod. I have a flatbed that would work buy I want a smaller trailer. Im considering a jet ski trailer but the right little flat trailer would work as well. Not in a huge rush, but definately looking at ideas.

Have you thought about something like this to fix your kayak loading issue?

I can load my yak no worries. The concern is being tough on something that costs 10x as much. I really thought Id get a bunch of homebrew trailers on here but apparently not. I will probably not worry about it until i find out if i need a boat at my next duty station. Kirkland. i was thinking the jet ski trailers would be a good idea and should start popping up pretty cheap soon. i think i will get a flat utility trailer and add quick install bunks and call it good. Have they made the pods motor equipable yet?

Look at Harbor Freight they have a bunch of small trailers that are hiway rated and very reasonable.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I found this picture on Ifish.

I'm working on building a trailer for my marshrat (magnum) and I want to have a couple other slots for my buddies' rats as well.  Not sure if I want them riding on their side or flat.  A friend has a waverunner trailer that we'll probably build something off of.  When and if it gets done this winter, I'll try to remember to post some pictures.
