My Son Casey's First Deer
« on: October 28, 2012, 08:35:58 PM »
Casey (10yrs old) passed hunters Ed. earlier this year and then he drew a Wind River youth Doe permit.
We hunted hard for this doe that he shot yesterday. We hunted every weekend since the rifle opener and just could not get the deer to cooperate long enough for him to get a shot off, I told him not to rush the shot and risk wounding the deer. Finally yesterday after hiking our butts off in the down pour we had changed into dry clothes and were headed down the mountain for home and when we decided to check one last clear cut since we had a hour of day light left and it was on the wayout. We turned down the skid road to park and walk the rest of the way to the landing, when this mature Blacktail doe was standing 30 yds from where we parked, she ran off into the timber and we followed, she stopped long enough for the boy to get a shot off.

Wow grats glad to see a youngen out enjoying the woods instead of Xbox.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

It's awesome to have my son hunting with me, he's the most reliable hunting partner I've had in years! Since Casey was five I have always made sure he went with me, even if it was for 1 day and some years it was a whole weekend, the older he got the more he got to go. My oldest boy is not into it as much.
