how do you guys camo your boats? what do you use as a stencil

they sell stencils bit i just used splotches and then used a fern leaf from michaels and painted other colors over the splotches. whatever you use though put a protective coat over that. my paint flakes off rather easily but ti is on a kayak that im hard on.

I always use stencils.  I ake mine out of the Teflon cookie sheets.  You can pick them up at dollar stores.  You can print a pattern off on your computer, place the clear Teflon sheet over it and ciut with exacto.  Teflon can then be wiped and cleaned frequently to prevent runs and smears.
You also can buy pre-cut stencils from many of the waterfowl supply stores.

I agree... just free hand with spray paint.
Stencils don't look natural.
Think about it....  You ever seen the SAME bush twice?  Hmmm....

Just remeber to use lots of dark dull colors first, then highlight the shadows with less dark tones.

Just don't rely on PAINT alone. Use natural cover to the full advantage. Dead branches, live trees, camo netting that's old and faded, or whatever.

Other wise, you have a nice big rectangle that painted nicely but stands out like a sore thumb.
Remember to paint INSIDE of you boat too.
Ducks see from way up in the air. Don't forget that.

I have done several boats and have had great results just using clumps of long grass sticks and small branches.
A lot of times we just pull the boat up along a log or into the reeds......we had a blind but it was more of a headache than it was worth at times......it had its days though......

Homemade stencils and spray paint. When finished I spray the whole thing with clear matte paint.
The blind top closes and I use burlap to keep the rain off and palm leaf "grass" over it for camo.

We used brush on paint. Then bent a conduit frame to attach our blind to... Home made blind with camo netting and plastic grass. Fake cattails and bird to look over us. 

Each section of blind is held in place by inserting into the rod holders on the boat.

I dont have pictures but i just painted a boat, the best paint i found is made by Krylon, its specifically for camo.  Its an ultra flat rattle can paint, about 7 bucks per can.  Start with a base coat of olive green or brown and then we used cat tails and just hold them up and spray whatever colors you want, i used tan, brown and olive. do several random coats with no pattern and play with it till you like it

Is it light colors first then progressively darker or the other way around when doing stencils? Can't remember?

i lay down the light colors first and then start breaking it up with the darker ones until I like the pattern. Then apply the stencils.
