Mistake or not
« on: November 02, 2012, 07:28:54 AM »
I stumbled onto a 380 bull yesterday and tried to film him.  Then it dawned on me.  I think the season is open and I think I have a tag.  OOOOps.   Carrying the wrong canon.   Could have threaded a bullet into him, but sure as hell couldn't get a good pic.

Well, first of all I wasn't thinking elk.   Its been a long time since I have seen any in this area.   I am so concentrating on the love of my life.  MULEYS.   I happen to glance up the hill....very rarely am I shocked in the woods, but I about swallowed my tongue and pissed myself.   The camera was bagged up because of the drenching rain......Here is the bull of all lifetimes standing in the open looking back over his shoulder down the hill at me.   Needless to say, he wasn't super receptive of me throwing my pack off and all the digging that pursued.....

If anyone has any pointers on how to perfect this move, please let me know.  I've practiced and practiced, probably a good dozen times or so, to pull this off.  Never with positive results  :chuckle:

Usually, for me anyway, preceded by a very audible 4 letter word.  Much like a shock gobble

Come to think of it, I think I just found one of my fatal hunting flaws.  The hunter's shock gobble.  When caught off guard by a big animal, I can't seem to keep from swearing out loud

By looking at all your pic's Bone, I don't think you'll have any problem finding him again. I just went through you other deer thread where you have pic's of the same buck year after year. You'll get him.

Was that the question? Then yes, it sounds like you made a big mistake. Next time, pack the rifle and the camera!      :bash:

Both of my high country haunts(deer) were stripped by wolves.   I could have busted a 140 buck but decided not to.   I have the multi season tag but didn't even go out with it.  I might hook up in the late season.   I am having fun pursueing with camera though....   I havne't chased elk at all this year.   Good to see you back!  Hope things are well.
