Elk Hunting 4601

Who's hunting area 4601.  Some access information would be great.  Teaming up with someone would be great.

I take it your a master hunter.  Plus that area is pretty much all private land I believe.

Hey thanks for the reply.  I'm not currently a Master Hunter, but everyone I speak with asks me if Iam.  I was a few years ago, it expired and by the time I got back to renew they'd changed the requirements.  Seems like most people who are Master Hunters got this Anterless tag.  Trying to get an idea if there is any huntable private or public land available.  Looks like everything is pretty much private.  Hoping to hook up with someone who knows the in's and out's.

What are you hunting?  What weapon?  You might be talking more about the 460.  4601 is part off the 460 just for master hunter hunts.  4601 its around North Bend and Snoqualmie.

Did you get one of the antlerless regular season 4601 tags?  The problem is most of that area is private land.   Not trying to be a turd but per the hunt regs "C Private lands; access is extremely limited. If you cannot secure access to private lands, do not apply for these hunts." 
 
The problem is that access in there truly is very limited and some of the master hunters have pissed some land owners off.  Also as a result of this many people who hunt up there aren't going to want to give up their spots.

I will give some advice tho.  Make very sure of boundaries.  Be careful with areas that border King County Natural Areas and do not venture in.  You cannot hunt in any of the King County Natural Areas and there are more and more spots popping up that you used to be able to hunt.  Also the good thing is that the master hunter hunts are not running during the regular seasons so you won't have that additional pressure.  Also right now the rivers have been really swollen, so I'm not sure that the cows will be crossing many of them so the cows may be moving in smaller circles which could be a good thing.

yep, didn't read the fine print. I was looking for a hunt close to home. I've done quite a bit of scouting with out success.  There is a blue gate up on mt. Si road,  it has a wsdfw sign on it.  I was wondering if it's dnr land open to hunt. Looks like I might be hunting 460 around 90 & 18.  Any advice is appreciated.  I was was a master hunter in the past, not now.

hunting elk,  modern, I have a cow tag for 4601 north bend.  I'm not a master hunter, I did get the tag.  Probably what I'll be hunting is the 460 any bull.try to hunt the edges of the 460 & 4601.  See what happens.

I would suggest 466 stampede pass.  Plenty of elk up there.  If you go along 18 your fire arm restricted.  You can't use center fire rifle.  Funny i was looking up near that gate yesterday.  Dnr land you can hunt on but i didn't see what was posted on the hate.  Plus your going to compete with hikers.

I forgot to say that you got started way late in the game since today is opening day for hunting elk over here.  I was looking at the boundarie for 4601 and there is only about one place that you could possibly hunt on public land.  Up by Snoqualmie Point the Rattle Snake trail...you would think that part of the Meadowbrook heard goes over there.  That is pretty much DNR land and some NF sprinkled in there.  Put you boots on the ground.  Watch you boundaries for fire arm resticted area.  Here is what it says in the regs ....It is unlawful to hunt wildlife in the following
firearm restriction areas with centerfire
or rimfire rifles, or to fail to comply with
additional firearm restrictions, except as
established below.
In firearm restriction areas, hunters may hunt
only during the season allowed by their tag.
•• Archery tag holders may only hunt during
archery seasons with archery equipment.
•• Muzzleloader tag holders may only
hunt during muzzleloader seasons with
muzzleloader equipment.
•• Modern firearm tag holders may hunt
during modern firearm seasons with bows
and arrows, crossbows, muzzleloaders,
revolver-type handguns meeting
equipment restrictions, or legal shotguns
firing slugs or buckshot.
Firearm Restriction Areas
by County:
King
The area W of Hwy 203 (Monroe-Fall City),
then Fall City-Preston Rd to I-90, I-90 to
Hwy 18, Hwy 18 to I-5, I-5 to Pierce-King
Co. line; Vashon and Maury islands.
Looks like that area isn't restricted.

Thanks,  I'm very late in the game.  If I'd read the reg's closer I wouldn't put in for the hunt. Wanted to pull a tag close to home.  anything west of 18 is firearms restricted anything east is open.  I'm hoping to hunt the east edge of 18 & 90 in the area.  I'll check out snoqualmie point out as well.  Thanks for the tip.  I'll let you know what I come out with.  working today, hunting tomorrow

If you do hunt it, just before you climb the hill after the gate, there is a road off to the right that takes you along the bottom of the ridge. PM me for more details if you like. I live up there and have a couple little nuggets of info if you want them.

You're definitely in elk area at I-90/Hwy 18.  Get ready for some steep terrain and go slow.  A buddy of mine watched a cougar chasing a bull in that area down a ridge a few years ago.  Keep us updated on how it goes for you.

Hi Russ, I see last year in 466 Stampede only 3 elk were harvested with modern firearm with only 1.7% success.  That's much lower than 658 North River with 93 elk and 17.1% success rate.

Would you recommend 466 to a first-time hunter?  (me). I am willing to hike but want to stay within about a mile from roads just in case I could be one of the 1% who get to lug quarters home to the freezer.

Snow is predicted this weekend on the pass.  Maybe it would allow us tracking opportunities.

If you want to stay local but i would imagine your going to have to hike pretty good and it is rough terrain.  If you have the ability to go else where.  I would go.  Hell you want elk go down to 520, 503 or anywhere down there but be prepared to merry lots of Hunters.
