Anyone hunt late archery in 654?
« on: November 02, 2012, 08:34:40 PM »
My first year with Hancock permit. I, also, have a multi-season tag. If I do not score in the late rifle hunt, I will be out there for archery. It seems that bucks are pretty hard to find, but I have also been hunting with my wife. So, yeah, lot's of clearcut hunting which I cannot stand. I generally drive by every clear cut, honestly, without ever looking through bino's. But, for her, it needs to be different.

When late archery comes, though, I will be back into timber where I like it. I found some good if not great places to hunt and intend on getting into them. I was wondering how much pressure that place gets, especially, with muzzleloaders out there at the same time?

Also, has anyone here killed bucks out of there in the late hunts of the past? Got any pictures:)

Should have no problem, might take a day or 2 though.  I was literally at the gate, closing it, talking to Clyde, and had a deer walk out of the brush at 30 yds....  I didn't shoot it since Clyde "knew" the deer.  It's been a couple yrs since I had the permit though so I'm speaking from 2009 experience.

Tough hunt... But I no longer purchase their permits.... You are better off with the muzzy imo.... You'll have better range in the timber and still be able to take a decent shot if you catch on crossing into a cut or something...

Yeah, never thought about using a muzzy. I do not own one so just do the archery and rifle. You got me thinking, now, and that is never good. Hmmm, got to figure this out, I guess.
