Little kid bow
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:53:21 PM »
I succeeded in getting my wife shooting, now my 5 year old girl wants a bow. I put a lowball bid on a Mathews Mini Genesis on ebay. Not expecting to win that and am looking for advice or anyones experience with bows for the little guys and girls. The mini genesis is a no let off, 6-12# 15-30" compoubd bow. I think it also has no wall.

Thanks in advance.

See if you can find a used Diamond Nuclear Ice.  My son had one and it worked great for him.  It flings the arrows really well for its size.

I have a 6, 5, and 2 year old and the middle wanted a bow instead of a gun, so I bought him the Martin Tiger.  It is much cheaper than most and in my opinion is perfect for introducing the kids to bow hunting. I just didn't want to spend extra money on a bow they will grow out of in a couple years. Just my FYI.  Check it out and see what you think.

I bought my 5 year old son the mini genesis because it was the only kids bow I could find for lefties. It cost a little more than the "Bear" bows at the big box stores but it has been a good bow for him.  The rest that comes with the bow is garbage for little kids tho (little piece of fold forward wire) but a whisker biscuit fit right onto the bow without extra mods. No sites or releases comes with the bow but at his age he just wants to fling some arrows and most of the time just wants to see how far they will go. after a few sessions we burried the limbs and he is still able to draw all the way back.  When he gets a little older I will graduate him to a better/stronger bow but it is perfect for his age/skill level right now.

my daughter started at 2 with a bear first shot stick bow.  for christmas last year i got her a martin tiger (she's left handed and the shoot thru seemed like a good idea), but shortly after got her a lefty mini genesis.  the tiger was cool, but the plastic riser bends with the tension of the 'cables'.  it was also tougher for her to draw because it does roll over like a compound.  the mini genesis has been great!

That's what I started my little Friend Braxton on. He was older and grew out of it quickly, but I think it's a good bow for a small child. The arrow that come with it suck, however and you'll need some aluminum kid arrows.

Braxton's father dry fired the Tiger and it is toast now; twisted limbs.  :yike: :yike: Keep the parents away from whatever you buy and you should be alright! :chuckle: :chuckle:

A diamond razorsedge, you can adjust from 19-29" DL and 15-30 pounds.  You should be able to find a used on reasonable.  You can also get 30-60# limbs for around $75.

Got outbid on the one on eBay.  Guess it'll wait a couple weeks and be a Christmas present. Thanks again for the input.

The razors edge is too big for her now. I have a mission menace I will give her eventually. It and the razors edge are only a little smaller size wise than my alphamax.

So do you already have a Razors Edge that isn't being used?

That's a great video H2O.  I love watching those little nuclear ices fling sticks.

I have a menace...I just looked At the razors edge specs online and it looks about the same as the menace.
