The $1200.00 Grouse
« on: September 01, 2008, 07:56:55 PM »
After investing in a shotgun, ear muffs, vests, Hunters Ed, many days afield shooting, muzzle control, muzzle control, muzzle control... after driving half way across the state, setting up camp at 4500' and scouting for three days prior to today, I am proud to announce that "My Son shot his first grouse!!! :IBCOOL: "

He was overjoyed. Mom was overjoyed. Sister was a bit jealous but overjoyed. Dad is still overjoyed!!!

Looking forward to a new hunting buddy for life.

Sister (my daughter) is next on my list.... :chuckle: Looks like I better get busy shopping for a shotgun for her!

Here goes another $1200.00!  :'(

Awesome!!!!!  That is what it is all about!  Congrats!  I remember when my daughter (at age 7) shot her first coyote.  You couldn't slap the smiles off of our faces.  Yep, when I read the post title I thought that he got nailed for nailing a grouse on the road or accidentally going over limit.

Thanks all! Bummer that the season opened today and not Saturday, or we would have a cooler full of birds.... Heavy wind really concentrated the birds on Sat and Sunday and we could hone in on them.... Today calm, and the birds could do as they pleased, spread out...and we could only hunt them a few hours.

Very worthwhile trip though... My son exclaimed that it was the best day of his life!!! :)

That is probably the best 1200 you have ever spent.  Awesome.  I have one of those coming up in the next couple of years as well.

Sounds like a great weekend with the family!! Looks like your son is hooked. I'd say that $1200 is the tip of the iceberg.  :chuckle: Best way to spend money if you ask me.

Awesome, the smile says it all. We went out yesterday local in Wilkinson and only saw loads of other hunters. Did some bear calling but didn't see any. We had a great time anyway

I keep hearing about a bad hatch in the Huckleberry, but I have seen tons of grouse this year already.........  The areas around our property is loaded with them it seems, at least until my wife comes over! :mgun2:

I think it depends on the area. There are a couple of stretches where I've shot many grouse over the years and I havent seen any this year so far but I havent been out as much as I'd like. Oh, well we'll give it a shot anyways.

Tell your son that Cathie and I said congratulations.  When I saw the $1,200.00, wondered what part of that Ford went south this time.  Good going.

Thanks Jerbear! All the kudos from everyone have sure put a big smile on his face. Very proud!

Also, found my differential noise.... I think the ford tecnicians forgot to replace the friction additive in my differential when it was serviced. I had them relook, and double check the additive, problem gone...
