I love my xd9sc as my edc. If springfield made a 10mm like my g20 I'd sell my glock. :twocents:

45acp is a much lower-pressure round than 40SW...Less muzzle blast and recoil isn't has sharp.
40 ammo is a little cheaper.
I prefer 45acp.

I have 3 xd 40's.  It really boils down to your personal preference.  the 40 will have more snappy recoil than the 45 but carries more rounds.  i bet if I started off shooting 45's I would probably feel the same way about them.  I wouldn't worry about ammo prices and all that.  I don't think it's enough to sway the decision for me.  if you shoot enough to make the price a big deal you should reload.  I would say 40 but that is MY opinion.  shoot whatever feels best and you can handle.  if you can't control the recoil of the 40 properly to continue with follow up shots then I wouldn't buy one. :twocents:

I have the 4" .45. The gun is great and a little bulky under my shirt. Hard to get into a rave that way! The .40 might be better for concealment and if you hit what you're aiming at 2-5 yards away, It won't make a whole lot of difference.

I recently bought a 9mm xdm, and I really like it. I did a lot of research on 9mm vs .40 vs .45 before I bought the pistol, and this was my conclusion... Many people rail against the 9mm as being underpowered, but this is not true. Standard .45acp loads fly at such low velocities that at longer ranges they can have difficulty making it though thick clothing and penetrating deep enough to do sufficient damage to the target.  With that being said, 9mm, .40, and .45acp at close range are going to be equally inefficient at stopping a person with one shot in a self defense scenario.  In order to kill or incapacitate a person in one shot with a pistol you must hit them directly in the head or the heart or the round must penetrate deep enough to completely sever the CNS.  It is not realistic for me to assume that I can make a one shot kill with a pistol in a self defense scenario on a moving target that may be firing back at me, so I went with the pistol that can carry the most ammo - the 9mm. My 9mm xdm is a 19+1 weapon, and with the new 9mm self-defense loads the 9mm is a very effective self-defense pistol.  I bought the full-size 9mm, btw.  If you are planning on carrying I would buy the smaller version.

If you do not trust the 9mm to do the job then I would certainly go with the .40. I found no practical reason to have a pistol that fires .45acp. With all of that being said, it doesn't really matter too much what size of bullets the pistol you have fires. If you can't hit the target you might as well just shoot peas through a straw. Get the pistol you feel most comfortable with and can handle the best.

I hope that helped.

I have a XD45 and think it is the cats meow Added crimson trace grips and think you can't go wrong with the 45. I know the first time I picked it up it felt natural in my hand
Plus I like the 13 in the mag and 1 in the tube more than enough

Although many people will disagree, I think .40 is a compromise round. I think small and fast AND fat and slow are both good strategies for a bullet as both the 9mm and 45ACP have proven themselves formidable man killers. 40 has both their weaknesses and half their strengths. If you like a big bullet, go 45. If you like a tall stack and fast speed, go 9mm. Either one will do the job.
