My take on Trophy Taker
« on: November 05, 2012, 08:09:55 AM »
I shot a Trophy Taker Pronghorn for about a year and a half.  Throughout this time I would notice about 1/4 of my shots had the tail of my arrow going all over the place, and I would get bad groupings when I knew I had done everything right.  Now when I say bad groupings, I mean an arrow 5 inches off at 50 yards, so no big deal, because that's still going to hit the boiler room on an elk.  About a month ago, the rest broke, and I replaced it.

I picked up a QAD Ultra.  Very similar to the Rip Cord code red.  This rest is super easy to tune, and I've had zero off shots and no visable tail wobble on my arrows.  And finally, my broadheads fly exactly where my fieldpoints fly.

Anyhow, my buddy and I were discussing it, and we figure that the pronghorn just wasn't getting out of the way fast enough.

You didn't have it set up right.

That's what thought too, but I took it to lucky shot and the nock point to have it checked, and they said it was fine.

Are you saying you're shooting a 5" group at 50 yards? I have the pronghorn on my bow now. I do see the tail of my arrows moving  around but I shoot tight groups. I am going to switch to the ripcord but only because I want a full containment rest. I'm interested in following this thread. Bill at the Nock Point set up my bow too.

I typically shoot a 3" group at 50 yards.  With the pronghorn, I would have an arrow off by ~5" every so often even when I knew everything was right (seemed like 1 in 4 to me, but I didn't keep exact count)

With the QAD Ultra, I've had zero off shots unless I knew I did something wrong with my shot.  I too initially wanted it for just the full capture, but after commiting to the purchase, I noticed those random off shots are now gone, and it was a hell of a lot easier to tune.

My wife's Ripcord is a better rest than my QAD.  Anyone want to buy a QAD at a discount price just contact me.  I like my TT Revolution better though.

I've seen tt's get all gummed up inside and won't drop fast enough.

You made a great choice on the qad! Its the only rest that will go on my hunting bow.

I've had a Trophy Taker Pronghorn on my bow for the last several years and have loved it until last night.  While at a club shoot I had problems with my rest where the string must have slipped on the cable and the rest was not rising to lift the arrow when I drew back.

While I've liked this rest, I'd rather not have this problem again especially if I'm on a hunt.  I think I will be picking up a limbdriver arrow rest.
