Just curious and looking for general info. I have a bull permit for this unit for muzzy 3 point or better Nov. 21 - Dec. 15. Planning on checking out the N.E. corner that borders the Toutle looks to be some DNR land there and the middle of the unit. not sure about access. I think there is a lot of private ground there, so not sure about that either. Anybody have this tag before? I looked at the harvest report for this unit which just brings up more questions.
any info would be great.

I've seen several over-the-counter bulls come out of that unit this year on public land (2-4x4, 4x5, 3x4). Access will be your biggest hurdle so my advise is work your way in from the outside............

Thanks Medic6
This permit is probably better suited for the locals that have land to hunt, but i have to give it the old college try

Try above merwin, there is a bit of public land. Think its the 6600 (road rock creek road). Anything on right side of the road (going up) will be in yale unit. Saw a good amount of elk up there during gen muzz season. Just wrong sex!
Just double check on map, i usually just drive and know the roads by land marks, not names. Good luck

Thanks Jsharp, any info is good on this unit. You never know anything can happen in the woods, so any advice, direction is much appreciated.

There are a couple gated roads after the 6600 (on the north side of 503) that are good to walk up. I have seen a few elk taken out of there.

You can hunt all the Pacificorp land, which is the bulk of it and holds most of the elk anyway. Hunt right off 503 towards the reservior, between Rock Creek bridge and the road going down to Speelyia Hatchery. Lots of ground, access and elk... not much to figure out? If you don't already know where and how you want to hunt the NE corner, I wouldn't waste my time up there. Figure out that block I just described and you should be able to get into elk, especially if you get a little snow!

Thanks Mule, I will definitely be checking out all the info so far. The unit isn't that big really and I'm sure there is a fair amount of private ground, so I'm limited to certain blocks. Maybe with a little weather I might get lucky ...
Going to check it out over the long Thanks Giving day weekend. If the weather gets nasty later I'll head back down and give it another try.

I would concentrate on the NE section bordering Toutle; the S portion is a pain in the A@@. They are in there.
I may be able to help you out depending on the days you'll be here.

Thinking of heading down on the 23rd and staying till Sunday and if the weather starts to move in I can always make another trip down for a few days. I'm pretty open for the weekends and maybe a day off until the end.

How is the S portion a pain? It's a big chunk of ground with great access from two sides and all the Pacificorp stuff is being managed for elk winter range. It's full of gated roads that wind through park like timber, manicured reprod. and big game forage plots.
On the other hand, the NE corner has, well... none of those three components
