bowelkin,
This was my second trip to Alaska (Thanks to Joe's Outdoor Sports and Pure Fishing (aka: Berkley Corp.) and a little hard work). Both times I have enjoyed myself to the fullest! The residents of Sitka were more than friendly and gracious. And I must say that when God got done building Alaska he sat down to rest and he smiled because he had created one of The Most Beautiful Places In The World! :)

I WILL BE GOING BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR!  I already told the owner of Horizon West Charters to be ready for me! ;) :)

Thanks for the great pictures. Is that a light house or fort? It certainly is well built, do you know the history?

Thanks for the great pictures. Is that a light house or fort? It certainly is well built, do you know the history?

According to the plaque outside of it:
It is a Blockhouse that was used to help defend the town of Sitka. It was built in 1862 and all the logs in it are Original. After the Indian problems were taken care of the blockhouse was used for a stockade and then later to store large supplies of Ice for use during the spring and summer months.
The walls are almost 2 feet thick.
