Well stated Romulus

believing what a taxidermist says.....well we should talk about some of the stories that show up on here due to what a taxidermist told their client.    Taxidermy is an art that involves preserving a trophy, from fish to quail to monster bulls.  It has nothing to do with measuring antlers.  Yes, some take an interest and are quite good at it.  Some, well, No.

First I'd like to thank you guys for all the congrats. I've been told to sale all my gear cuz ill never top this one, we all know that's not gonna happen. I never knew of this site until a friend told me about my buck making it on here. I love reading about all the first ever kills of these kids, and the pics of the mosters taken this year. And the Winthrop buck holy s---.
Bobcat the only issue I have with this is questioning the ability of my taxidermist, and even that was kinda minor. I think your misunderstanding how I use the term bs. When I'm at the bar talking to my body's I'm bsing, when my wife asks me were I'm going I tell her that I'm bsing with the neighbor. In my mind every topic on here is bs, so if that means I have issues I apologize. I found almost all of the comments positive and the ones that weren't, so what. If you knew me you would know I have very thick skin and it take a hell of a lot more then this to get under it. I did get a kick out of some being  30in off on the main frame but pics weren't the best and its tough to see the 40+ of mass. In my mind your all free to say what ever you want and can't wait to see the whitetail pics that are sure to come. Thanks again everybody.

Congrats on a once on a lifetime Washington buck. I'd have pissed myself  if I kill a buck like that.

Congrats Ryan  Glad to see you are taking the comments so well ... I'm one that said I didn't see it??? :sry:   but I also said it was a stud buck for sure!!! I think Romulus hit it on the head, when a score is thrown out there especially one that claims to be a state record there will always be discussion on both sides of the fence.

Lets all just keep in mind there are many that DO in fact embellish a score so for us that were in doubt it is not all that far fetched to question such claims. Congrats again on a great trophy no matter what the score and I hope I get to see it for myself at the Puyallup show!!!

Give the respect where its due!  That is a damn fine buck whether it is 170" or 200".  Bow or rifle, who gives a *censored*, that is a awesome deer.  Congrats to the hunter!  What ever happened to going hunting and just having a great time whether you shoot something or not.  It has become all about scores and that really sucks.

Thanks for that Guts.  Maybe some of the guys on this thread that are upset will remember why we all started hunting in the first place.

I think its funny how everyone thinks thier an expert. I look at the score sheet and do not see any measurements I would disagree with. That buck has deep forks and that goes along way. People get caught up in how wide a deer when it has verry little importance just a few inches. Add that 10 in dropper and it makes up for the ten inches the 20 in spread is missing. I have a friend that shot a 162" buck that has a 13 in inside spread but its has deep back forks and and long G4"s. I like the one picture that tried to compare a wide thin horned buck with weak forks compared the buck in question. You can see that there are alot more inches on the buck in this thread. I thinks if the people that discounted this buck put their hands on it they would think a little differently. Thats a Dandy buck  :twocents:

Thats exactly what I've been thinking. People just look at a buck, squint one eye and throw out a number based on rack size and width, instead of adding up actual inches of horn. I'm no expert either but looking at the score sheet (the way any dispute over a score should go) I can see it. Yeah the pictures are deceiving, but I can see its there.

Its harder than you think, and you are right, it would be easier if we could all put our hands on it, however here are some things to think about, The dropper is actually 7 inches (OK 7 and change) and you called it 10.  Thats 3 inches on one point.  THose kind of conclusions can also blow a score out of proportion.   It is also difficult to adjust for velvet.   Many of these issues factor into a discussion.

The decimal numbers are eights not tenths. Notice there isn't any .8 or .9's on the sheet. The computer spits out the final numbers. Larry just measures and fills in the blanks.

FYI, Just got off the phone with Eastman's and Ryan's deer can not be in the Mule Deer Edition because it is for rifle kills only. It has been moved up to Jan issue of Eastman's Bow Hunting Journal. Just wanted to clear this up.
