seemed like as the season has gone on, the more deer have moved out of our unit and across the river. The first part of the season saw deer everywhere, new bucks every day. This past week the deer numbers seemed to drop a little with small bucks hanging around. The first good snow we got pushed the first wave through, but seems like there are more waiting for more weather before coming down.
Today was about the last day we were able to hunt (besides possibly the last day on tuesday) and with no deer yet, it was time to get some meat in the freezer. Basically first buck seen was going with us, and there were a lot of young tender 2 points running around. We got up to a place where consistantly see deer, but of course nothing this morning in the snow. As we were walking back out, we heard a couple bust out of a draw about 40 yards away. As one went over the ridge in the timber, I saw a main beam on his right side, looked bigger than the 2 point we figured we would get.
We went into the draw after them and found 2 deer about 60 yards in front of us, a 2 point and a doe. the took off to our left. We went to the right, in the direction of the first buck I saw, and as we hit the top of the hogback, found him sneaking across the draw away from us. One quick 165 yard shot from the .300 win mag dropped him in his tracks. Not the buck my dad had been looking for with this tag, but better than a small 2 point and meat in the freezer. Ended up being a 22 inch wide 4 point with a decent body on him. I'll throw up some pics as soon as I can get them off of my phone
