Got in really early cause it takes three hours to get to my high spot, many miles again today and nothing. No deer in 2 1/2 days, after 20+ miles on foot. I'm done till late muzzy(multi tag), the blacktail broke me down this rifle season. Congrats to all those succesful hunters, nice job guys.twenty plus miles. My god. your either a marathon man or don't know how to judge distance. Saw three shooters in there yesterday and didn't hardly get out of the blind.20 miles in two and a half days id say is very doable. I know I do it on every single one of my back pack hunts with a 45 pound pack

I know I do it on every single one of my back pack hunts with a 45 pound pack When do you find time to hunt? Here is some data. Naismith's formula from 1892 works well. The basis is 2 miles per hour, plus an additional 30 minutes per 1000ft of ascent.Obviously, terrain and personal fitness affects this - for example ploughing through deep mud or snow is a lot slower, but overall this is still a useful method. Now are you hiking only or do you take a peak once in awhile for game? And if your pack is 45 pounds coming in I would hate to know what it weighs coming out if you harvest an animal.....don't take it wrong but alot of people don't judge distance hiking or shooting very well. If you can hike and hunt that distance my hats off to you. I use to be able to boot hunt quite well. Age, weight, hip replacements, knee surgerys have changed that. I use my mountain bike if the gate is locked and it is fairly flat. It's amazing how you can get away from the Orange army after one mile! When I was younger I did scale Mt Raineer, Dall Sheep hunted in the Brooks Range, and got myself a booner Mountain goat in this State to name a few critters.Keep on Truckin!Pic is this years bucks, six of the Eleven were youth hunters.
