« on: November 14, 2012, 03:46:08 PM »
I am going to chesaw for late archery thanksgiving weekend. there is snow on the ground and I need some tips on hunting whitetail in the snow. What are the habits of a whitetail in the winter/snow? Thanks fellas....

Put out a bale of alfalfa and put out some doe estrous and then sit. Mid to late November is magical this time of year. Good luck.

when you say put out some doe estrus, do you mean open up a bottle of it and pour it on the ground?

rinse and repeat. Really in most areas, just sit down and you'll do fine and see deer.

I saw my first whitetail buck today near here. It's the first buck I've seen in 2 months. All the ranchers I know have been saying the same thing, where are the deer ? If you're hunting the Chesaw game reserve, good luck.

I use two three scent wicks dipped into a bottle of doe in heat or estrus. If you don't have wicks, use cotton balls soaked in it. Not only will it attract bucks, it'll also cover your scent. Good luck and knock one down.

IMO if its 204 then I would hunt more towards the lost lake area. I helped a member this year with a good area in 204, i am waiting on his post to see how he does, i have some nice sheds of a 5x5 and 6x6 whitetail in that area. I shot a 4x4 whitetail a 2 years ago, but in that same area, like by the big tree thingy.

The deer will find it in less than 24 hours if you have a decent amount of animals in the area. Put out multiple piles.
