idaho whitetail hunt....not looking good
«

so a buddy of mine and i were planning on an idaho whitetail hunt together the week of thanksgiving, but he can no longer go. i have got my wt tag and scheduled a week off of work to go so i still plan on leaving this friday morning for idaho. the problem i am having now is that we were gonna stay with a guy that he knows over there. my buddy also fishes over there so he knows some of the country. anyway im gonna pack up a camp and all hunting gear and go anyhow. i am planning on camping on public land and may bring an atv. i will be hunting 10a or there abouts. i have never hunted idaho before so if anyone has any info on the camping or atv use in 10a i would really appreciate it, or any other useful info. thanks

I hope you feel better about it once you get there. Don't give up. Anything can happen especially this time of year

Answered my own question when I hit send I hunted it for Deer back in 1998 with a friend of mine saw Elk and Turkey every day and missed a nice 3 point whitetail. My friend tagged a decent two point Whitetail and I ate my tag cause I wanted a buck (it was any whitetail then) we camped out of Headquarters LOTS of area to explore and if it is still they same can take your quad most anywhere as long as it does not say no motorized vehicles. Good luck!

I hunted out of headquarters over thanksgiving week a few years back. Bring chains. Lots of rut activity. Some real nice bucks. Lots of roads open to atvs. Bring a woof tag.

My dad lives up there. The wolves are very thick. He said the deer and elk are not acting normal. he got his this year sitting on an orchard just a couple miles from town. He said they are hanging out closer and aren't getting pressured by the wolves so bad. Hope it works out for ya. If I wasn't on deployment I would take leave and go. I know some good spots. p.s. All the deer my family has shot up there this year were in the afternoon.....

Depending on where exactly you hunt your going to be in some big timber country. Not knowing the area well you will prob have the best luck roaming clearcut's and edges of them.
Dont let the wolf talk bother you to much. I spend alot of time around there and have yet to see one, but have friends that have seen and killed some (2 killed this year). They are around more in that area than others but you will still be able to find deer pretty easy.
