Nikon vs Nikon vs Vortex help please
«
on:
November 15, 2012, 07:25:08 AM »
I'm looking for a new set of binoculars. I've been considering the Nikon monarchs both the 5 and 7 and the vortex viper hds all in 10x42. My question is this has anyone compared the Nikon monarch 5s vs the 7s? I've got to look through them both( at different times) and I couldn't honestly see much of a difference. The vortex seemed a bit crisper to me but also more money. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I bought the diamondbacks and they are amazing for the money along with the great warranty. I personally would get the Vortex, but everyone has an opinion.

Don't rule out the Bushnell legend HD. They are on sale with an additional rebate. You can't beat the price or quality.

I believe the Monarch 7 is ED glass, whereas the 5 is not. You may not notice the difference in casual looking but after several hours of glassing or in low light you probably will. Spend as much as you can afford.

Vortex has a great no fault warranty. I have had mine for three years and I always have them with me. Only thing I have had to get fixed were the eye cups and they were stepped on. Called vortex and they had them to me in a week and were easy to replace. Larry S. has a good review of them for the field. Vortex is the only Glass I would buy. I've looked through vortex and swarovski side by side and do not see $1500+ difference. Nikon is OK glass but in my opinion vortex is a lot better.

When you buy a binocular, check out
www.binoculars.com
You can call them and they will even sell it to you for less. I've bought all my binos from them. They also sell scopes.

Doug at cameralandny is a sponsor of many outdoor forums and very competitive on price.
Nikon M7 is very good.
Vortex is,too.
Opticstalk forum has pretty good members.
Seriously look at birdwatching forums.
