I shot right through a Franklin's Grouse in a tree this weekend using a field point.  Man, the feathers flew out of the thing like someone cut open a down pillow during a wind storm.  However, I must have hit it a lil low cuz the damn thing flew off and I couldn't get it.  Lost my arrow to boot.  I just picked up a pair fo those Judo's last night.  Hopefully that'll remedy the situation next time.

Hey Michelle,

They seem to be flying pretty true to where my broadheads are hitting out to 30yds...which is about as far as I figure I'll take shots on small game anyway. Beyond that, they are getting a bit sketchy.

On another note, I ruined the last of my el-cheapo Easton Stalker aluminum shafts out in the field today trying to get one of those pesky barn pigeons. Those walmart special arrows sure aren't very durable against soft dirt and grass!

Diggin' these Judo's, though!
I left it better than I found it...did you?

A 1/4" opening, 1/2" wide washer (or thereabouts), behind a field point works just as well as a Judo or blunt, costs about a nickel, stops on grass, brush, branches, etc, takes the abuse on the washer (throw them away when they get bent), and as long as they are flat and round - fly to the same point of aim as the field point.  They flatten grouse and bunnies with less penetration and tearing than blunts or Judos, and are great for stumps too (though you'll only get a couple of shots per washer until they get bent).  They also make a real cool ripping sound when you shoot them.

Still, the economy is tanking, and GW would prefer you spend several dollars on each small game head instead of getting a pocket full of washers.  I'm just not that patriotic, I guess - but Ace Hardware thinks I'm ok  :chuckle:.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

My Judo points fly to the same point of impact as do my field tips and my broadheads.  Shot a Rabbit this past weekend at a laser ranged 48 yards, rabbit made two hops and was done for, arrow and Judo was lying in perfect shape 5 feet the other side of the rabbit.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Been shooting judo points for years and love them.  They are great on any small critter.

My broadheads and field points are 100 grains so do I need a 100 grain judo point?  Seems like I would but all the stores are out of 100 grains so I bought the 125 grains.

I was glad I had my Judo point on for a pack in trip the first week of Sept in Idaho.  I was able to take 2 big blue grouse in the head at 18 and 30 yards that made for a much better fare than freeze-dried meatballs and spaghetti.  They fly the same as field points for me.  Greenhunter: you'd better get in a few practice shots with Judos that are a different weight than your broadheads and field points because the extra weight will make a difference in the drop of the arrow as well as in the spine issues.  Just figure out how the 20 and 30 yard pins hit with the heavier point and use some Kentucky windage when a grouse steps out.  The difference between where the 100 and 125 grain heads hits should remain constant between shots, but the difference will not be the same at 20 and 30 yards.  I'd guess that you'll be 1" low and 1" left at 20 yards and 2.5" low and 2" left at 30 yards, but it's just a guess.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

I use a 100 gr. Judo and found that it flies true to my field points (as well as to the broadheads I am using now). Always carry a one when I am deer or fall turkey hunting just in case I come across a confrontational grouse standing in my path.

I always carry one too.  Usually a Flu Flu tipped with a judo.  With conventional fletching I never noticed any difference in flight between field points, broadheads or judo's.  Like already said it's a close range game anyway.  If really close on grouse I usually head shoot 'em - and of course never miss.  I found out a few years back they also work great on prairie dogs during a Wyoming antelope hunt.  Lot's fun and great practice!
