A buddy kills an ELF DEER ...

Can not say I ever seen this on a blacktail but all 4 hooves looked the same  :yike:

when that happens is the animal safe to eat. some hoof rot looks pretty nasty.

If you knew how many beef cattle go through a slaughter plant with feet like this , so yes it is safe to eat. It's more to do with to much protein in there diet.

Swamp buck? A few years back, my buddy got a big old buck that lived in the swampy marsh bottoms and his hooves looked the same.

Yep--hooves are like fingernails or dog claws.  They grow constantly, and if the deer don't walk on dry ground the hooves don't get worn down.
