E-collar help?
« on: October 01, 2008, 09:18:57 PM »
Hello everyone,
Anybody have any opinions on an electric collar for my lab. Had the Tri-Tronics a number of years ago and it worked well for my purpose. Seems there are many new models available and looking for suggestions, pros/cons. Also, any opinion on the models with the beepers/pagers, are they advantageous for a bird dog? I have also seen the range vary from 200 yards to a mile, I'm thinking a 1/2 mile range should be plenty. Thanks for the help.

Tri Tronics is hands down the best.  Can't help you with all the other questions.  The 70 would probably be your best best, but some of the bird hunters will be able to give you better advice.

In my personal opinion you just can't beat Tri tronics.

Ditto, that.  I have the Pro 100, just in case.  I hunt Chukars and want to make sure I can each out and touch him whenever needed.  I have been happy with my collar and have heard they have great customer support which is rarely needed due to the quality of the collar.

I use Dogtra's collar (A.K.A. E-Brakes).Love the beep collar.
I own Tritronic also but my my shorthair is stubborn
and it is not enough to get his attention.

Thanks for the help guys. I went with the Dogtra this time, mostly due to the additional features. I appreciate everyones input. Hopefully, I didn't make a bad decision.

Dogtra are excellent collars. The tri-tronixs are great, even the sport doggs do well. Sport Dogg is probably the simplest to use. And if your using it on a lab that your gonna be duck hunting and flushing with then the 400 yd range is plenty, even the waterfowler will have you covered.
