Mine got hit by a car when she was 11 months old and I had to make some pretty expensive decisions.  I could have put her down, spent $800 to take off her leg, or $3000 to put plates and pins in.  Everyone thought I was crazy, but I spent the 3k.  It was a lot of money, but they fixed her like new and looking back I'm glad I did it because it turned out her favorite things were chasing balls, rodents and hiking the woods.  And she always outlasted me, until this last year when she got cancer at 11 years old.  I'm not giving you medical advice, because each situation is different, and you will handle things however is best for you and your family situation, but I will say enjoy whatever time you and your family have with your dog--whatever he is able to do.
