Pimp my bow?
« on: November 19, 2012, 02:51:51 PM »
Starting archery and want to be ready for next year.  I'm getting a gently used bow from a co-worker who upgraded.  It is a Parker Ambusher: http://www.bowhunting.com/publisher/bows/2011/1/7/parker-ambusher

So what accessories do you recommend?  What should I do for sights?
I'll also need a rest and quiver?  Are there any must haves or must avoids??

It comes with a case, Scott release, extra custom string...

What about arrows?  I have no clue yet what to even look for.  Figure I'll stop into Nock Point or new Cabela's in Marysville (seemed to have a nice archery section) and walk through the options.

My kids have done a little 4-H archery (recurve) and I have an old beater compound and we do some backyard shooting now and then.  But still a novice and have never hunted archery before.  But really looking forward to starting up.

Thanks,
Chad

Take it to an archery shop, not Cabelas, and find lbs and draw length for you to be comfortable shooting that bow.  Then let them help you set it up within your budget.  They will set it up for you properly, find proper arrows and help you with tips on shooting technique maybee.  This will save you money as you wont be buying the wrong stuff etc.
MAGA!  Again..

+1 and make sure they inspect the bow too. I know you said gently used but when I got my limbsaver brand new from a friend a piece was broken and i didn't notice it until my string was almost cut through on the eye. could have sucked really bad!

Anyways a good sight, rest, stabilizer, arrows is all you need. talk to the bowshop guys they will get you pointed in the right direction. I use A Limbsaver DZ-32 with Carbon Express Mayhem arrows, Black gold sight, trophy taker fall away rest, x-coil stabalizer, and I cant remember my quiver right now lol. good luck man!
