Coastal_Native...sage brush? Mulies? Montana?
« on: November 19, 2012, 03:24:32 PM »
I never thought I'd leave the sanctity of the Coast of Washington, but I couldn't resist a trip to Montana to hunt Mulies with a few of my friends.  I saw a lot of bucks, passed on a few smaller ones, blew an opportunity at a bigger one, and finally put this one down on the last day.  Seemed to be pretty good hunting for Public land.  Lot's of deer and few hunters.  No wonder why people go out of state to hunt   :chuckle:

I had a little dip in my confidence after missing a nice 4x5 at 275yds on the first day.  I'm not used to shooting too far beyond 100 yds being that I've hunted western washington my whole life.  I even made a bad hit on this buck on my first shot, but didn't know until I got up to it.  The second shot drilled him in the spine and put him down.  I put quite a few rounds through my gun getting it dialed in prior to the hunt, so maybe it just comes down to the fact that I'm not a good shot  :chuckle:.  I don't know that I've ever had so much adrenaline or been so excited.  I've killed a few decent Roosevelts, Blacktails, and even two cougars over the years, but I've never been so excited that I lost control of my reactions.  I screamed, kicked, jumped, roled, and had the "Rocky" soundtrack playing in my head as I walked up to it.  The buck wasn't that big, so maybe it was the fact that I wasn't coming home empty handed to a wife wondering where all of our money went  :)

I think I'll be back next year.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
