Phelps Game Calls "The Director"
« on: November 12, 2012, 03:28:41 PM »
I have been working on a new tone board to compliment the one I already use on my Custom wood turned calls.

I went back to the roots of custom call making and built this tone board using delrin, rasp files and and a drill press.  After throwing over 20 boards away I finally ended up with a call that sounded awesome (60 hours invested).  This call can be ran super soft and can also cranked up.

I am going to get an order put into the plastic caster this week.  I am curious how many people would be interested in pre-ordering the call.  I will sell these for $14.99/call.  The final production calls will be olive/black or brown/black.

I actually heard this call in person last night and once again Jason has another great product. Same quality sound as his other calls, but you can definitely get down and make those softer quieter cow calls with "The Director." Another call I'm gonna have to add to my collection, at least I don't have to pay shipping.  :chuckle:

Thanks Rick.  It was a fun project to take on.

I think there may be some elk next year that won't be thrilled with the results.  8)

Here is what a recent purchaser had to say:

"Received the new call in the mail yesterday. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about how any call could top the sound quality of the previous two calls I ordered from you. I am happy to report that you have once again exceeded my expectations. This call is simply amazing."

That was my goal when I set out to make the new call.

I haven't been putting lanyards on.  I could drill a hole in the barrel and attach one if needed.

On my original estrus elk call the wood doesn't matter as much, but does have a small effect on overall sound.

With the Director the barrel length, material density, etc... is critical in the sound of the call.  It has to be a short barrel with thin walls to sound right.  The barrel length also helps with the call being able to be used low volume.
