5x5 Blacktail
« on: November 19, 2012, 11:43:38 PM »
This 5x5 Blacktail was hit by a Jeep this morning out at McChord AFB. My Dad works out there in the department that takes roadkill and wild animals off the base and either lets them go or Donates the meat to the food bank. This has been the only buck that they have found in a few years that has been hit. When my dad went to recover the animal it was still alive and had to be killed by the Military Police. While gutting and skinning the animal they found 1 bullet in its neck that was completely healed over and another in its back leg that was completly healed over. This animal was hit in the hind quarters by the Jeep then shot at close range 10 feet by MPs and was still alive until he made a 2nd shot and hit him in the vitals. He was alive for about 4 hours after he was hit.

I know... Because it was on a Military Base my dad couldnt do anything about it. They had to wait for the MPs... That is sad. Then when the MPs got there they asked my dad were to shoot it. My dad said between the eyes for a quick death since its been suffereing for so long. 10 feet away the MP misses. So my dad said since you missed just shoot him in the vitals. The MP said were is that... LOL What a *censored*!! Go back to school and put your gun down if you don't know how to shoot... lol

They're taught to shoot people not deer   :chuckle:

Too bad that buck had to go like that.

It is a nice 4x but I don't think he is that old. I would bet he is just coming into his prime. What a bummer.

Hopefully he passed on some of his genes. Where on base was he? I have seen some dandy bucks living on the golf course on McChord.

I would have to agree with that. Looking at his face and body size again, he does look pretty young. Probably only 3.5

When most of us westside hunters think of 5 points, we think of 5 points above the eyeguards. I'm not sure why but it's always been that way. I think maybe because most blacktails I see get shot don't have eyegaurds, and when they do it's a sign of maturity and good genes. Gotta love any blacktail w/ eyegaurds. It's a shame that buck had to go down like that, DAMN WOMEN!

:yeah: In my book a point is a point, I don't get the 4X4 with eye guards. that's like saying it's a 4X4 with 2 extra points!  :chuckle: Back east he'd be a 10 pointer. Oh well to each their own. He is a beautiful animal, too bad he had to go out that way. Tough as nails too! Shot twice, hit by a car, then shot 2 more times! Crickey, what a stud!
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

How do they get through the gate??
Especially when the gate is closed at night  or when there is high volume of traffic. I think I've seen him last year by the back gate (bk) gate as well with 2 other bucks and some does when I was working out there for Aleut...

Funny, 30 yrs ago we'd never have this discussion. To the local old-timers that's a 4x4 and always has been.

So in a no hunting area, the guy has a bullet wound in the hind quarter and in the neck......Damn poachers!!!! I work at JBLM and get to see a lot of nice deer in the residential areas. I'm sure this guy has never been anywhere close to a spot that someone could legally shoot at him. >:(

Walk out the rail gate, cross the road..... :guns:
That being said, yes more than likely a less than honest shooter...
