I have been patiently waiting for the 21st and I am ready as can be to have the game on . I will be hunting high country monster blacktails tomorrow . I sure hope they have not killed them all and left one for me .. There has been alot of Big Blacktail shot in the units I hunt So it will not be easy ...but I have the grunt tube finely tuned and I hope it works like it has in the past ...Good luck to all you whack masters out there and I hope to see some results come tomorrow evening !!!! Whack a Big One

I seen a nice 2x3 at first light but wasn't comfortable with a 60yd shot in sideways rain. So I put out blacktail doe urine around a bunch of rubs where I seen the Buck. When I went back this evening to hunt that area the tree I put the scent on got destroyed and broken off at the base  and there was 2 more new rubs on his rub line

Maybe give it a try in your area if the rubs are fresh  :dunno:

O.K I was really pumped for this morning to come .. we get up with high hopes and ended up seeing sheet ...Perfect morning but nothen on the move . So I decided to put my son in a spot I think he would run if I jumped him and I headed up the hill to get above him and work my way down threw the timber hoping he will run to my son .. I start working my way down for about a half mile and brake out into an open area , I stand there for about 20 minutes and start moving again when I stop I can hear some branches braking and alot of comotion going on below me .. I start toward the noise and it stops  :dunno: I was sneaking like a cat but the wind was swirling  :bash: As I get to where I heard the comotion I see this tree and it was freshly thrashed  :bash: :bash: When I get to my son he tells me he heard something run by him but could not see it because it was to thick to it ! this is a tough area to hunt because it is a huge alder patch and it does not matter where I go I see the same amount of sign no matter where I go ...Very hard to pin point them because they travel the whole area ..Persistance is the key in this area ...Just keep going and hope he makes a mistake sooner or later.. Snow level has dropped so that may make things change real soon !

:'( :'( :'( :'( >:( >:( :bdid: I am seriously sick to my stomach right now ... :bdid: Hard as I have been hunting and not seeing much ends in disappointment for my son this morning ...I never messed up a perfect dream for a kid as I did today  :sry: I am so disgusted in myself I broke out with a rash on my stomach ...What a dumbarz I am  :yeah: anyway here is what went down ... We head out really this morning and it is sheety up ..Wind blowing trees falling and raining ..we hit a spot I have not been into in awhile ..we work our way threw some reprod and come to a clearing .As we stand there I am scanning my surroundings and then I see ears flicking around in the wind ..we watch for awhile and then I grunt at it and here it comes ...A DOE ...The wind blows right at her and she takes off ...No other deer with her ...we head Northest up this ridge and as we look off into a clearing by the creek we see 3 more ...All doe .. It is now about 9:30 So we slowly work our way down the creek and see a couple more doe...Total of seven total .. we get to the rig and I am thinking what now ..they are definitely moving around today ..My son makes a suggestion and I at 1st said No its to windy up there and then I decided what the heck lets go check it out ..there is an old grade about mid slope that runs threw some reprod and it is an awesome grade to slip up on deer so we head out the grade and all the sudden  :yike: :yike:There he stands at 60 yrds and does not give a rats butt about us ...I could see his scent glands on his back legs and they were black as an ace of spaids and a huge bodied son of of gun ...He turns and walks up the grade with no care in the world so I told my son to stay to one side of the grade and when he goes around the corner get up there quick ...He does and I am right behind him ...when my son gets to corner and peeks around  :yike: :yike: there he is broadside as I peek around the corner he is asking is it 30 is it 30 I said no 40  :yike: :bdid:Whack right over his shoulder blades :bash: :bash: I never done nothen that stupid in years Now it is my fault he missed his buck ...It was a heavy horned freak of a buck ..huge bodied -grey faced old growth blacktail ...I may need to take a nap and never wake up after that  :dunno: :'( Knowing he had the right pin on it and I changed his mind makes me sick ) Part of hunting ...BUT NOT THE PART I LIKE  :bash: :bash: and then thinking he did not run far So we may get another chance ...WRONG ...He took off and never looked back ...O WELL Maybe tomorrow ...and the thing is he wanted to kill a doe we saw after the buck and I said no no no ...  :dunno: hopefully this comes to a good ending by Dec 8th !

Well I have hunted my arz off ...I have lost wieght hiking my butt off everyday trying to whack a good one but somewhere something has to give ...Unfortunately we did get on a good one and I messed that up  :bash: Yeah maybe I better get Kyle a range finder but that was not the case for him , he had the yard right and the 30 year vet DID NOT ...WTH !!! It is hard for me to buy a rangefinder when I have hunted 30+ yrs with a bow and never owned one  :dunno: But that was the way it was ment to be or it would be dead ...hopefully the lord has a bigger one lined up for KYLE ...We have 4 days left and after I take a break today because I am beat into the ground we will be at it hard tomorrow morning ...It has been a blast this year regardless ...Seen 4 deer get rolled from family and friends and I end up with the smaller one ... :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: So yesterday morning I get up ready to go and go to get up Kyle and he said he wanted to sleep in ...He was beat ! I load up and head to hills.. I hunted around for a few hours on a huge alder flat and seen a couple doe but nothen with horns ...I have drove by this one particular gate for days now and kept telling myself to check it out since it has been of 15 years since they logged it and I hunted it ..It is growed up with Briars but once I got in there a ways it opened up to some beautiful thinned area ..I was all excited at this point and grouse were flushing all around me ..It was an awesome hunt yesterday ...I had a frickin ball all by myself and just relaxing in the woods is undescribable.. :yeah: anyway as I head up this grade the deer sign was off the chart ..Horning- leaves kicked up like a flock of turkeys were in the area ..But all from the deer ..As i was standing there thinking how I am going to make something happen today I pull out my grunt tube and my primos can ...I have done this enough times to know it is a matter of time when sheet will hit the fan and believe me it did !!! As I started up the grade I started grunting on my call ..Grunting like a buck chasing a doe ..Soft quick little grunts ..and then I would stop for awhile and just watch and listen ...then I would move again and grunt while I am on the move ...By now I have walked about 2 miles and it is looking better every step I talk ..Horning everywhere ...As I cross a creek I see a well beaten trail and it is heading out into a clearing So I ease up the trail and stop on the edge of the rerod and take a break and lay my bow down  :bdid: I reach in my pocket and grab my grunt tube and the primos can ..then I take a pinch of my cope and take a deep breath and say to myself ,,,why did it take this long for me to check this out ...and just happy to be sitting here  :yeah: Now I am only sitting here for about 1 min and I am serious about that and I pick up my grunt tube and blow it 3 or 4 times set it down grab the can and roll it over and then turned my head to my left to see a deers arz go hehind a huge cedar tree 5 FT FROM ME  :yike: :yike: Now I am in a panic because he is so close and my bow is laying on the ground  :yike: :bdid: and I am praying he does not see me before I can get my hands on it and get an arrow nocked ...I get my bow drawn and as he steps out inches from the WASP  :yike: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: I see the orange tips of his horns and he hits an opening and I Nah at him and he tenses up and goes on point like a bird dog and I can see all 6 of my pins covering his heart  :chuckle: :chuckle: and the spirit of arrow is released and WHACK ...He kicks and walks up the hill about 40 yrds and stands there for maybe 2 minutes ,,,takes 3 steps backwards and flips over ...  I do not know why these animals keep flopping over before my eyes ...IT CAN NOT BE THOSE WASP NOW COULD IT  :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :tung: ;) :yeah:  He is not the biggest buck but I had one hell of a good time ..and I figured we passed up 2 2pts already and the luck may run out soon So being a bowhunter and having this deer walk up to me at 5 feet he just had to die  :dunno: :yeah: if you guys think for a minute that grunting and using the can does not work you better give it a try ...No it does not work all the time and you will not call one in everytime but when you do it will be worth the persistance you have put into it ...and from what I have learned you need to be in an area the deer are hanging or close to a bedding area ...just sharing what I have learned from countless hours of trying and no success to given up and it always happening eventually ...Persistance is the key when blacktail hunting ..You just keep going and never give up until it ends !

Congrats!

And I have to ask: Why would you drag a deer 3 miles?   :yike:

That would kill me. I'd have to quarter it and get it up on my back.

I am so fired up right now that I have to keep this post live !!!! A perfect freakin morning went south real fast !!!! we head this morning knowing it was going to be good hunting ..Just happy to be going knowing anything can happen on a day like today ...everyone who has followed this post know I hunt with my boys and a couple of friends and one of my sons killed his buck and one of my best friends killed a dandy ...and I killed mine the other day ...RIGHT ? ME AND kYLE MY OLDER SON HEAD OUT AGIAN THIS MORNING ...I was a crazy morning to say the least ..we get back into the reprod and I can instantly smell the smell of a rutten buck ...it flat out stunk ...So we ease down a well beaten trail and I start blowing that grunt tube and within 10 min ..a huge deer is coming our way ... I am thinking no way ..is this going to happen again ... :dunno: :o He is walking right to us and I can hear Kyles heart beating ...all the sudden the wind blows down our necks and crash crash off he goes ...what the hell ??? As he he running off he stops about 80 yards and snorts his head off at us for 5 min. he just would not quit  :bash: :bash: I have to admit I never had a blacktail buck snort at me ...Never ...So I can tell ya they do now ! I have basically been playing my turkey hunting tactics on these blacktail and it has been working ..you have to get right in their living room before trying to call them ...Thats a fact ...Both times I have called these bucks to me this week I found sign and followed the trails until I got close to where I know they are bedding ... HERE IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD  :yike: :yike: :yike: As we are coming out to the road we hear all this yelling  :yike: I mean someone is peeeesed and screaming made ..So I think someone is at my rig and we start hauling arz out to the road ...as I get to where I can see my truck I see WARDENS walking around my truck and another rig which I did not know was my friends ...It is my buddies AGAIN ...You know the wardens  :o  >:( >:( >:( Instantly I go off  :o Without saying anything bad I will just say they were there because I shot a deer and I should not be hunting ...WTF ...They knew I shot a deer and it has only been a couple days  :dunno: :dunno: :o :yike: Did I not tag my deer or something ? Would I be on the internet showing off animals that were not tagged or outlawed ? Should wardens check you every single time they see you when they know exactly who you are ? They should know from me not buying all the tags I always buy this year that I am tired of their sheet and should not keep messing with me ...I am an outlaw ! Why ? Because we kill to much sheet and they do not like it ....THATS WHY !!!!!! I am about to round up every bowhunter I can and line up the sides of the road at this particular Gate  :yeah: then they can charge me with guiding  :dunno: ;) :yeah: You guys have no clue what I have been threw with the dept ...they are making me out to be someone I am not but I am this close to taken action .... :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: >:( >:(
