Honest mistake. That's hunting. I certainly wouldn't get all upset over it. Of course you wanted your son to succeed - human nature.

"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

Well I have hunted my arz off ...I have lost wieght hiking my butt off everyday trying to whack a good one but somewhere something has to give ...Unfortunately we did get on a good one and I messed that up  :bash: Yeah maybe I better get Kyle a range finder but that was not the case for him , he had the yard right and the 30 year vet DID NOT ...WTH !!! It is hard for me to buy a rangefinder when I have hunted 30+ yrs with a bow and never owned one  :dunno: But that was the way it was ment to be or it would be dead ...hopefully the lord has a bigger one lined up for KYLE ...We have 4 days left and after I take a break today because I am beat into the ground we will be at it hard tomorrow morning ...It has been a blast this year regardless ...Seen 4 deer get rolled from family and friends and I end up with the smaller one ... :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: So yesterday morning I get up ready to go and go to get up Kyle and he said he wanted to sleep in ...He was beat ! I load up and head to hills.. I hunted around for a few hours on a huge alder flat and seen a couple doe but nothen with horns ...I have drove by this one particular gate for days now and kept telling myself to check it out since it has been of 15 years since they logged it and I hunted it ..It is growed up with Briars but once I got in there a ways it opened up to some beautiful thinned area ..I was all excited at this point and grouse were flushing all around me ..It was an awesome hunt yesterday ...I had a frickin ball all by myself and just relaxing in the woods is undescribable.. :yeah: anyway as I head up this grade the deer sign was off the chart ..Horning- leaves kicked up like a flock of turkeys were in the area ..But all from the deer ..As i was standing there thinking how I am going to make something happen today I pull out my grunt tube and my primos can ...I have done this enough times to know it is a matter of time when sheet will hit the fan and believe me it did !!! As I started up the grade I started grunting on my call ..Grunting like a buck chasing a doe ..Soft quick little grunts ..and then I would stop for awhile and just watch and listen ...then I would move again and grunt while I am on the move ...By now I have walked about 2 miles and it is looking better every step I talk ..Horning everywhere ...As I cross a creek I see a well beaten trail and it is heading out into a clearing So I ease up the trail and stop on the edge of the rerod and take a break and lay my bow down  :bdid: I reach in my pocket and grab my grunt tube and the primos can ..then I take a pinch of my cope and take a deep breath and say to myself ,,,why did it take this long for me to check this out ...and just happy to be sitting here  :yeah: Now I am only sitting here for about 1 min and I am serious about that and I pick up my grunt tube and blow it 3 or 4 times set it down grab the can and roll it over and then turned my head to my left to see a deers arz go hehind a huge cedar tree 5 FT FROM ME  :yike: :yike: Now I am in a panic because he is so close and my bow is laying on the ground  :yike: :bdid: and I am praying he does not see me before I can get my hands on it and get an arrow nocked ...I get my bow drawn and as he steps out inches from the WASP  :yike: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: I see the orange tips of his horns and he hits an opening and I Nah at him and he tenses up and goes on point like a bird dog and I can see all 6 of my pins covering his heart  :chuckle: :chuckle: and the spirit of arrow is released and WHACK ...He kicks and walks up the hill about 40 yrds and stands there for maybe 2 minutes ,,,takes 3 steps backwards and flips over ...  I do not know why these animals keep flopping over before my eyes ...IT CAN NOT BE THOSE WASP NOW COULD IT  :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :tung: ;) :yeah:  He is not the biggest buck but I had one hell of a good time ..and I figured we passed up 2 2pts already and the luck may run out soon So being a bowhunter and having this deer walk up to me at 5 feet he just had to die  :dunno: :yeah: if you guys think for a minute that grunting and using the can does not work you better give it a try ...No it does not work all the time and you will not call one in everytime but when you do it will be worth the persistance you have put into it ...and from what I have learned you need to be in an area the deer are hanging or close to a bedding area ...just sharing what I have learned from countless hours of trying and no success to given up and it always happening eventually ...Persistance is the key when blacktail hunting ..You just keep going and never give up until it ends !

Nice job BH45, that buck is a clone to mine this year. Mine had the crab clawon the left side.

Congrats!

And I have to ask: Why would you drag a deer 3 miles?   :yike:

That would kill me. I'd have to quarter it and get it up on my back.
