What's your favorite duck to...
« on: November 20, 2012, 09:11:22 PM »
...eat?

Then what is your favorite duck to hunt/shoot?

My favorite to eat are definitely teal. I also like to shoot (at) teal the most although I have never gotten more than 4 in a day.

I love killing teal, but my favorite bird to hunt is canvasbacks.

Teal are definately more tender, but green heads are my fav.
They're much more worth it. 2 teal is barely one green head. lol....

This is my first year of bird shooting, and as of now, I prefer to shoot teal. Wow are they fast!! Taste wise, I can't tell the difference.

The young virgin ducks and geese.

Had ring neck duck for the 1st time this year and was impressed how good it was.

We've had more ringnecks show up than anything else. They are some dumb birds! I haven't eaten any yet but the breast skin seems to stick to the meat more than most others.

That seems true for all diver ducks.

Didn't have a problem with the buffleheads.

I know my least favorite is coot. Those things will swim right up to you and stare you down. If you ever get one to get off the water don't shoot it. They stink so bad I'd be afraid to eat one.

Still kicking myself for not realizing a canvasback landed in my dekes. I was really tempted to shoot him on the water. Really tempted.

HDSHOT, I'm with you.  The last duck I ate was a ringneck two years ago (missed last season in Afghaniland), and ever since then, it's all I have been able to think about.  Best piece of meat I have ever eaten!

Hard to beat a mallard breast soaked in teriyaki marinade.  But hey, any duck that wants to light in the decoys is gonna get the same treatment.
