Where would you go...
« on: November 21, 2012, 12:01:26 PM »
...if you wanted to shoot a few birds within an hour's drive of Tacoma?  I have a 10' layout paddle boat, no duck dog, and have tried Ft. Lewis, but i'm not seeing any birds there yet.

Try Rap John Lake off Mt. Highway, before Silver Lake

put your boat on a little trailor that you can pull and walk into tule lake, hell it might even be open now and you could drive to it, its a great lake to hunt when the weather is blowin hard
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"

Lewis holds birds. Your boat is the ticket to get to the farther water areas in the marshes where the birds go since they know most people cant. I know a couple of areas that I can't get to because getting out of a kayak is a bad idea in the floating marshes but with a boat that size you could get out and if it gets rough get back in without worrying about capsizing. Where have you tried on lewis?

Thanks!  I'll check that out.  I see Tule Lake isn't far from there either.

I've been to area 10 off of east gate rd, but there was very little water and no birds.  Any further info is much appreciated.  Feel free to pm me if you like.

idk which part of area 10 you went to. There is the part right off east gate but if you go 2 turnoffs further where there is a huge puddle and follow that down there is tons of water. Area 9 has tons of water. Lake Fiander in area twenty something is rumored to be ok but I haven't been out there. Lewis lake has a ton of buffle but they hang out in  the middle of the water. If you wanna see birds these places are ok. As far as getting them into range... ehhh... With a boat though it is definitely going to increase your chances.

Thank you.  I think I may not have gone down far enough.  We'll see.

Harts lake in Roy can hold birds. From the launch, go from 9- 11 oclock.
