Help needed - taxidermy
« on: November 21, 2012, 12:37:28 PM »
So I've decided to go ahead and get a shoulder mount of my 5x5 Whitetail.  I'm having a heck of a time finding a place to take it.  Part of the problem is my own: ie, being unable to get any time off this week to go visit and see some actual shops/examples.  Part of the problem is that many of the websites/internet searches I've done turn up no useful information, no pics etc.

I'm in bit of a rush because the deer was taken in the rain, transported in the rain, and caped in the rain.  I have no garage and nowhere I can get it dried out.  I have salted it to buy myself some time.  The one actual call I have made to a taxidermist sight-unseen turned out they were accepting no further work this year.  Not sure who to call next.  I would like to get some personal testimonials but find it awkward because of all the site sponsor taxis posted on this site.  Don't want to step on toes, and of course there are mixed reviews.  But I would appreciate any and all input so that I can go ahead and get it in somewhere.

Thanks in advance for any info!

If you haven't already, I would get it in the freezer until you have time/locate some place to take it.

I use Coulee Creek Taxidermy near Reardan. Chris Lee does the work and his phone number is 509-796-4730. I have attached pictures of my mule deer that he did 2010. Also attached a picture of my sons European mount of his spike elk last year. If you contact him I'm sure he can email pictures of his work. We have 2 deer European mounts and a full shoulder mount elk in his shop right now. These pictures are all taken with my cell phone so it doesn't do his work justice. The buck is the one in my avatar.

If I recall you are in the Seattle area so I would give Michelle or Bucklucky a call. They are south a bit but I don't think you are going to find many people who wont vouch for them on this site. Check out their picks on the taxidermy thread and give them a call.

I've seen some of Cedar River Taxidermy's work and it's top notch. I have a bear being done by Rick now. He's in Ravensdale (Maple Valley area)

I have seen work by both of them and they both do quality work.

He is the best around. Dropped off my buck for a Euro yesterday. I am sitting below 3 different shoulder mounts Zach did right now, one over 14 years ago that still show no sign of age.

Hey Moe,

Where are you located?  It's hard to refer you to a taxidermist that is close to you if we don't know where your from.

I am located down in Rochester (16 miles south of Olympia) Exit 88.  I have quite a few pictures in the Taxidermy Forum.  Here is my website.  I don't have a ton of photos on there yet.  I havn't had time to update it in several months.  (360) 704 - 0034
