Doing my part to keep it a live.
« on: November 21, 2012, 03:14:22 PM »
Took my boy and his buddy, both 5th graders, hunting this year. Gavin shot his first deer last season. Here in the Palouse youths can shoot a doe or 3pt & bigger during the general season. This year WDFW opened the Colfax hunt area to youth, seniors, and disabled hunters, for a general doe hunt Nov 10-19th. Last year Gavin killed a doe, and wanted to hold out for a buck during the regular season. We saw lots of young bucks and had no shots at legal bucks. to our suprise it took us 1.5 days to get Gavin his doe. After hunting for another 1.5 days Matthew decided he would shoot any anterless deer, since he had not shot a deer before. He hunted last year with his uncle, but did not see any deer. Wednesday we went out after school and Matthew missed a fawn. We hunted again all day Saturday and saw a few deer but got no shots. We went out again early Sunday morning and he conected on a nice button buck first thing.

Both boys used Gavin's Marlin x7 youth 7-08. They were shooots a reduced handload with a 120 B-tip. Bullet worked great.
